This is such a terrible debate. Edwards is just hopping on everything Kerry said, with a little room for improvisation, and Cheney is just lying. Not so great, not so great.
Not necessarily. I actually think Cheney handled a lot of things in a better fashion than Edwards. Not to say I agree with anything he said, but he just made it look better, and that's important. Edwards was rushing what he had to say and stumbled much too much.
Now Kerry spoke amazingly. Hurrah for that, at least.
Did you see Cheney DROP THE DAMN BALL on the gay marriage issue? He essentially gave Bush the finger. It was the probably the weirdest thing I've ever seen in a debate.
And what else should Edwards do? "Well, I like what my BOSS John Kerry has to say, but, this is how I'd REALLY do it...". They are essentially mouth-pieces for their superiors until they actually have a say during their periods in office.
But he could have done something better than just quote Kerry. The only time he said anything diverting from Kerry's statements were when he was asked completely different questions. He did, however, kick Cheney in the balls with that same-sex marriages business. That was nice.
But really, they both were tagging on the exact same (even when most of it still wasn't truuuuue!) lines as their 'bosses'.
As I said, any deviation shows, unfortunately, division of party lines. You have to play the game as the V.P. We all know who the true power behind the throne is, but, it was a huge coup that Cheney swallowed his pride and cow-towed to Edwards on the gay marriage issue. And that was, considering, hardly any deviation. If either of the men were to actually put their own new ideas into the election now, it'd throw off the whole delicate equilibrium of the system. Not a system I agree with, but, a system that is in place.
