The (fictional) pachinko machine in question resides in an illegal casino; I tend to think that hitting the jackpot would most likely result in a cash payout by the casino. This was more of an exercise in, "Hmmm, I wonder how many pachinko balls that is? I wonder how much space they take up? I wonder how much they weigh?"

I surprisingly can't find an image of the machine online, so I'll have to screencap it myself and post it. There's a mock-up of it that's in the second live-action movie (http://www.tokyograph.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/kaiji_2.jpg), but it doesn't look much like the anime version, plus there's people in the way.
