Man, I wish it was easier to track fandom info. You're so right about comms - it would be helpful if there were more clearinghouse comms that covered all the news. I'm pretty lazy about these things and tend to stick to newsletter comms, which means I end up having a decent sense of fic, and have to rely on the flist for pictures.
I know what you mean. I get tired of having to join ten different comms just so I can be sure I'm getting everything I want. The fandom that actually pushed me to this has only just gotten started and I've already had to start following about 7 comms to be able to get everything. *head desk*
Just think what it would have been like back in the day when the "lists" were all through Yahoogroups. *shudders at the thought* My poor email!
I'm not sure when it became taboo for a comm to cover all aspects of a fandom but apparently it is now.
Oh well, 'tis the life of a fandom follower I guess

Ugh, I'm SO GLAD that we don't have to do yahoogroups for this sort of thing anymore. Or that at least those groups can now be run through a gmail addy. ;D And it does seem like fandoms have broken no only into comms, but along social media platforms: picture swapping has gone to tumblr, quick recs to twitter. I'm not sure how facebook plays in all of this, though I know it does. Ugh. The fangirl shtick is hard work. *swoons on fainting couch*
Oh, I HATE that about comms. And in torchwood, you then also have to be on like 9 different fic comms. Not all are in the newsletters, so discuss Stuff, too. And each does not allow all aspects of the how. Different characters, different philosophies.... grrrrrrr....and 99% of those are not on my default check list. So not sure why I even keep them around. Anyway, I understand about the flist. I can never do that. it upsets me to much to unlist someone. I am devistated when I am unlisted. :-/ that said, if you need to, you can let me go. I know I am not around much thee days.
Oh I know all about Torchwood's many bazillion comms. I think it's probably the worst of all the fandoms I follow. Though SPN and Due South might follow close behind. I just weeded out several Torchwood comms, I think I had about 15 comms just for it alone, I got it down to 3. *is proud
