Character Name and Series: Yokoshima Tadao / Ghost Sweeper Mikami
Name in Role Play: Yokoshima
Race/Ethnicity: Human/ Japanese (Hunter)
Age: 16
Gender: Male
Appearance: Yokoshima isn't much of a looker, naturally, he's rather scruffy and has been described by his peers as 'ugly,' looking as though he was pulled out of a bad eighties movie. His hair is spiky and brown, swept to the right. His eyes are brown and wide with an Asian slant to them. His features are rounded and boyish, unblemished save for faint scuff marks from odd jobs and dates gone badly.
He's a decent height for his origins, standing just about 5'8. He is bony, malnourished (nothing but skin and bones). If it wasn't for his enthusiasm he may as well resemble a walking corpse, and the dark circles under his eyes don't help either. Naturally, he looks rather sickly. His expressions make it worse when he's turned down; shocked, stunned, or disturbed the corpse like effect takes further affect. While near death expressions seem most common he almost always has a goofy grin on his face, and his eyes light up when he feels he has a chance in life with something other than brushes with death. In other words, he's a smiling goof ball.
As far as clothing goes, Yokoshima prefers the sloppy relaxed look. He usually wears just about anything so long as it's comfortable. In public, he prefers to wear his denim jacket, white t-shirt, blue jeans, and a white or red bandanna under his bangs. He lives off a 250-yen allowance, which isn't very much considering the circumstances. Since living in Allupato he has grown to learn that yen doesn't get him very far and has settled on wearing almost the same clothes every day (being dirt poor sucks balls).
Personality: Yokoshima is a hyperactive teenage boy with an uncontrollable libido. He is in the prime of his pubescence years, and raging hormones tend to get the best of him. There's no getting around that Yokoshima is a pervert, so don't be surprised if he copes an unwanted feel. At times he can control the urges, but if more than one woman is involved he finds it hard to suppress them. The result of suppressing his urges comes in the form of constant nosebleeds or an occasional black out.
On that note, even if Yokoshima is a pervert he makes up for it with a few redeeming qualities. He is ambitious, and likes to think he's courageous by putting determination before cowardice. So long as he feels it's beneficial for him in the end he acts on impulse disregarding his inner coward entirely, although, when situations become too chaotic Yokoshima takes it upon himself to flee the scene. Deep down he is a coward despite pretending to be tough to impress the people around him. He is afraid of dying, but has a bad habit of putting his life on the line when he thinks he can accomplish the deed then finds out he can't and panics he runs away.
Lady luck never shines down upon him either. You could say he's one of the unluckiest guys to ever walk the face of the earth. He has a terrible time with women and can never seem to hit first base no matter how hard he tries. He's asked plenty of women for a date in the past, but it always ended up badly. Yokoshima usually came home covered in bruises or slumped over from being dumped. No matter how many times he's turned down he still tries, though impulsiveness gets him in trouble.
He's willing to do anything for the lucky women he happens to fall in love with and will follow her into the depths of hell and back. Though most relationships he engages in don't last for about a day, he's devoted, and clingy: a bad trait since he almost always ends up being used because of his kindness (i.e., a mermaid had asked him to date her once to get back at her mermaid boyfriend and he only ended up being dumped in the end.). Ghost women don't seem to mind him, however, he minds them.
When it comes to jobs, Yokoshima is usually used as bait. Thus bringing out his inner coward. He's a crybaby, and squirms like a worm (equating the best of baits). He screams like a girl in terror and is surprised he survives a day. He'll come home pale, complaining about his job, and shaking like a leaf. It doesn't take much to put Yokoshima into the depressed corner of doom. He doesn't sleep much because of his experience with ghosts, and paranoia sets into the point to where he's constantly glancing over his shoulder for anything suspicious.
He is prone to moments of maturity that last for usually about a moment (He'll become deep voiced, and pretends to be brave or serious), but when danger rears it's ugly head he'll slip back into immature mode. He's not very smart, and lacks in the brains department, but that doesn't stop Yokoshima from getting what he wants. Generally, Yokoshima is a loser that knows no boundaries in the realm of stupidity, but he sees himself as every women's hero with a can do attitude.
Abilities/Weaponry: Yokoshima isn't really built for fighting, but one thing he is good at is running away, naturally, he's a fast runner and can cover long distances in a matter of seconds when he's frightened. His stamina goes through the roof when he's determined, and has scaled buildings in the name of perverts to get a free peek at women bathing or undressing. If discovered his stamina drops to an all time low, causing him to return to his senses and possibly falling to his death if he's not careful.
Having been trained as a Ghost Sweeper/ Exorcist assistant, Yokoshima has some knowledge in holy weapons (I.e., Fuda Scrolls, rosaries, holy water, crucifixes, etc.,) He also has some know how in vampire slaying, but he's not very good at it. He can never seem to get close enough without paling and turning tail. He can improvise weapons if pushed into a corner, though it doesn't do Yokoshima any good if his knees are knocking with waterfall tears flowing from his eyes.
Cowardice is his element, whether he likes it or not. Only time he'll go headlong into danger is if he's forced to do it. Being bait seems to be the only thing he's good at or making situations worse. He's also good at luring spirits out from their hiding places because of this, and his cries of terror attract them to him.
Weaknesses:
If Yokoshima has any natural weaknesses, women are definitely on top of his list. Women distract him easily, which isn't good if he's trying to focus on a mission. Dirty thoughts run through his mind, and attempts at blocking perverted visions only result in a gushing nosebleed or a sudden black out from it being too much. For as many times as he's been touchy feely in the past he's lucky to be alive despite having being walloped and left with massive, swelling bruises on his head or in other obscure areas that he'd rather not talk about.
Money, though it's not his biggest weakness is something he pines for. By his standards he's flat broke, and can barely afford to feed him a decent meal. The tightening of his belt often leaves Yokoshima's stomach constantly rumbling and looking like a walking skeleton. This doesn't help in landing him a date for the evening and he becomes lethargic, usually zoning out and near blacking out if he's gone a week or more without food.
Ghosts are another weakness despite being a ghost hunter. Even if his primary use is as bait for luring ghosts from their haunting grounds. The attacks end up leaving Yokoshima bone dry, and corpse like on the spot. He pales, eyes white over, and he doesn't move at all until it's necessary. This has left many to believe that the influx of ghosts had killed him, on the contrary, he's very much alive: just passed out until the chaos is over.
Being human is a natural weakness with even greater hurdles to cross. The ability to die being one of them and Yokoshima is terrified of death. He has faced up against a melting pot of supernatural beings and is lucky to be alive after multiple near death experiences. He can't regenerate limbs, and depending on the severity of a wound it can take months for deep gashes to heal: cuts and bruises taking up to a few days to weeks before fully scabbing over. He is almost always bandaged up because of the obscurity of his wounds (Sadly, most of them being from women he's attempted to pick up pathetically).
History:
Yokoshima was born and raised in Tokyo, Japan by his mother and father (who he loves dearly). He now lives on his own with the support of a 250-255yen allowance (I.e.. 1.00- 2.00 roughly) sent to him by his mother through the mail. While in Tokyo he had worked plenty of odd jobs and the oddest being that of a Ghost Sweepers/ Hunters apprentice. During his apprentice ship with a woman named Reiko Mikami and her comrades he had learned the basic skills of exorcising and capturing ghosts.
While he didn't have much to offer in the beginning in terms of powers he was mostly used as bait during missions, and left screaming in terror (He was tied to a flag pole, kissed on the cheek, and attacked by multiple ghosts haunting a fountain once). His job was a love to hate relationship, and his paycheck equaled his allowance. Which wasn't much, and left Yokoshima dirt poor and malnourished most of the time for lack of better terms. He often wondered how the woman he worked for earned so much while he (as the bait) received a measly two-dollars an hour for his torment.
Because of this, he saw his life as a living, breathing nightmare that he could never seem to escape from. The only thing that made it better though was the plentiful presence of women in the field. So long as he could work side by side with his greatest passion he could care less about the dangers that were bestowed upon him for the sake of ghost sweeping.
In time, he had heard about Allupato through word of mouth from fellow Ghost Sweepers, and thought it would be a good opportunity to earn more money with all the supernatural beings roaming the city. So he took it upon himself to be adventurous and made his way to Europe by stowing away on a boat and once they landed he was discovered and tossed overboard by the captain and his crew. He was then left to cover the rest of the trek on foot. When he reached the city he began to have second thoughts. He had offered himself up on the streets for multiple jobs relating to his services, but has had no such luck in getting hired. He didn't understand an ounce of Italian often leaving the teen scratching his head and looking dumbfounded.
Despite being in Allupato for just a few weeks he is undoubtedly lost, broke, and constantly begging for food. He takes shelter anywhere livable even if it's a behind a dumpster in an abandoned alleyway. If you hear someone murmuring in an alleyway about how much his life sucks? Then it's probably Yokoshima you're hearing. If you manage to make an acquaintance with him don't be afraid if he looks corpse like or ready to pass out on you that's just his nature, and will pass when he gets sleep (in a decent place) or eats healthier food rather than scraps or what 2.00 can afford.
You can almost always find him the town square begging for a job and looking for a place to stay. Until he's comfortable with the environment he's a roamer, and is often homesick. That is until he sees a pretty girl and tries pathetically at hunting her down and asking for a date. So don't be surprised if you see him face down in a gutter either. It's how his life is and always will be. He's grown to accept the fact, but that doesn't keep him from trying despite the fact that he fails miserably almost every time.
Organization/Pack/Clan/Guild? None/ Free-lance (He'll work for anyone paying over 250- 255-yen an hour. Though if you're sly you can trick him into working for less. Some times for free if you're lucky!) --Will work for food! --
