Alright, so I have obviously failed in my goal of writing in my LiveJournal twice a month. You can issue the catcalls now. However, I've been really busy of late what with Japanese needing to be studying, and there are other things on the fire that needed to get done, too (such as TONS of roleplaying, writing-which, sadly, isn't as done as I'd ( Read more... )

I have similar vision/problem as you. I'm quite detail oriented as well, but it's hard for me to see the big picture. This applies to real life and work life. I know I have a fairly narrow thought of the world as well. My focus tend to be the day to day life and the people near me so, like you, I tend to forget about people who I don't interact/see every day. Not that I never think about them, but it could be months or years before I get reconnected with friends. Luckily my friends are similar in that respect so we don't feel offended if either of us forget to keep reguarly contact. Then again, I think we're all like that to various degrees. We're too busy thinking about all the daily little (or big) problems that we fail to step back to see the road we've traveled so far.

I believe the trick is to seek balance between the detailed and the big-picture. Each is pointless without the other. Why obsess over details if the big picture isn't properly defined?

I'd go so far as to call that a statement of common sense, of course. ;) Just like playing in a band, knowing the sheet music (the big picture) is useless without the conductor, and watching the conductor (the detail) is useless without the notes.

But as simple as many "common sense" concepts are when stated, finding the proper balance in those balancing acts are not always so easy to find. Knowing by intuition how to balance of looking at the conductor whilst also glancing down at the notes on the page is a challenge in its own right.
