I never could get behind the whole soulmate thing. It was just too fatalistic to have to sit back on my laurels and wait for someone, possibly continents away, to sweep me off my feet because all other relationships were doomed to failure.

Anecdotal evidence, but yeah, now that I'm over the honeymoon stage...true love does take work. Not that it's some terrible long slog, but two people have to be committed to each other to keep the spark alive, and yeah, achieve that soulmate status. Nothing ever seems to just be handed to you, unfortunately. What I've personally found is great, but if it doesn't work out, I'll find something else great. And I think that's true for everyone.

See, I've got it all figured out! :p

I believe this to be true to a degree. Your soulmate is out there, but they're not going to just be there straight away, and they're not going to jump out of you. The relationship develops over time, and after a period of time you realise that this is the right person. You may still argue, and at points, hate, that person, but you still know that they're the only one for you.
