How do you even send a comment on LJ messenger. I tried pressing Enter. And it didn't work.
Also mine says I'm Offline on LJ Talk.
How do I turn myself "online"?

Any help for a new LiveJournalist?

Well, I'm not using LJ Messenger, so I am not sure why it might not be working. I think it's a Javascript thing similar to Facebook's chat, so browser compatibility is something to watch out for.

LJ Talk - if I remember right this is the XMPP/Jabber one. It's a special chat service that LJ used a long time ago. To be "online" in LJ Talk, you need to download a Jabber compatible client, sign in and set your status to visible.

There isn't that many people using either service, though everyone had their LJ Talk added to their profile by default, so there's a lot of "offline" users. If you don't plan to use either one, it's okay to leave it that way.
