Last time, Mario saved the post-Koopa Parakarry's bacon, delivered a
whole bunch of letters, and defeated the vulture/bounty hunter, Buzzar.
Now, he must climb down the other side of the mountain and cross the vast
Dry Dry Desert...
But first, time to consult the What-If Machine!
What if Mario had said he was Luigi?
Buzzar: Hmm... Well...
Luigi, eh, pard...?
You do look like this dude...
Well, yer not Mario, I guess. I reckon you can pass.
She then lets Mario go, until you cross her bridge again.
Now, if you say you're Mario:
Marioooo!? Well, I'll be!
If yer Mario, I reckon I've got to bust you up!
She then attacks and gets owned as normal.
Anyway!
Hey, a sign of civilization!
Oh, and a campsite! Will wonders never cease?
With that pith helmet and mustache, could he possibly speak any other way?
Also, I suspect that he's related to Flavor Flav.
I'm known as Kolorado. I'm an archaeologist, you know. I travel the
world.
At the moment I'm turning Dry Dry Desert upside down to find the Dry Dry
Ruins.
My assistants have attempted to gather information in Dry Dry Outpost,
which is near here.
Sadly, as of yet, we're having little success. All I need's a clue and
we'll be golden!
Parakarry gives him the letter he was carrying...
Oh, good show!
It's a letter from my wife.
Thank you ever so, old chap.
This is just what I needed to give me strength to go on.
...I know!
I'll pass this along as a spot of thanks.
I came across it while I was immersed in the dig around here.
He tosses Mario a Star Piece, and Mario heads off into the desert.
Soon, he encounters the oddest shy-guys of them all!
They'll slyly approach and then slam into you all of a sudden.
If you can damage them in an attack, you can get your stolen coins back.
Let's beat 'em before they can make off with our loot!
They make the most adorable "disappointed" face when you block an attack:
Be careful fighting them!
It'll hurt if you jump on their spiky heads!
They also have an annoying habit of calling in reinforcements.
Let's beat 'em quickly!
Reinforcements!?
Wait, wrong reinforcements.
And here's one of the much-feared whirlwinds, who seem to get their style
from Strong Mad.
Yay, another letter from a tree! Let's go deliver it right way! ...Nah.
Hooray, we're almost there! But first, let's poke around the desert some
more.
Sweet, an upgrader! Let's use it on Bombette.
Woohoo! Let's head into town.
I'm so happy to find civilization after crossing that desert.
Despite the climate, lots of travelers seem to come here. Still, they
can't get that many tourists. It's too hot!
Moustafa is the leader of this entire town, so...
You'd better keep it in mind.
...Although you probably won't ever see him...
Where's the man? No one knows! o/~
He stays hidden from his foes o/~
As Mario walks past the shop, the door opens, and...
Bah! I wanted to buy some ornamental scarabs for Luigi!
A composer am I o/~
writing songs, well, I try o/~
Sigh...
I wish I could find some lovely, heart-moving Lyrics.
I want to compose Music filled with beautiful Lyrics.
It's my fondest wish!
I bet this guy has some involvement in the fate of the musician duo in
Toad Town.
One dark day, he was betrayed by his subjects.
In the uprising that followed, Dry Dry Kingdom was ruined.
King Mousta escaped and vowed vengeance on his enemies.
He gathered those faithful to him and defeated his betrayers.
King Mousta's supporters were the original robbers who built Dry Dry
Outpost.
You know what? Even if he digs up the entire desert, he won't find them.
Parakarry gives him a letter, and...
Gee, thanks!
Oh, looks like an order from Koopa Village.
My job is delivering things from Dry Dry Outpost.
This guy's a great customer. He's always ordering stuff.
Hey, by the way. Would you do me a favor and deliver this letter the next
time you're in Toad Town?
It's to Miss T. She lives there. She's one of three amazingly beautiful
sisters.
She's normally chatting with her sisters in front of the Dojo.
Thanks a lot!
The king hid the entrance to the ruins of his kingdom, and the robber boss
guarded them.
Legend has it that even now, the descendant of that boss hides in this town and keeps the ruins safe from prying eyes.
Finally, we come across this shady character:
Mario gives him an item, and he says...
My name is Sheek.
I trade in information, things others do not know.
About Dry Dry Desert:
Dry Dry Desert is a vast and everlasting sea of sand.
Under this sea, many secrets lie buried. More secrets than there are Stars
in the sky.
The legend of Dry Dry Ruins is one of these secrets.
How to get to ruins:
Only Mr. Moustafa knows where the legend rests.
You must see Mr. Moustafa to find the resting place of Dry Dry Ruins.
Mr. Moustafa is a descendant of the great robbers who built Dry Dry
Outpost.
He is somewhere in the town, yes...but exactly where, only his close
followers know.
I could tell his secret, but only to the nicest of guys, yes.
Favorite food:
My favorite food starts with an L and ends with an N. It's a yellow
fruit...so sour.
Such a nice fragrance...
Its tree grows only in the desert oasis outside town.
If you were to go to the oasis and get one for me, I might believe you're
a true nice guy.
For, of course, only the nicest of nice guys can meet Moustafa.
Well, it's a good thing Mario already has one of those selfsame fruits in
his pocket! (No, he's not just glad to see you)
Oh, heavenly! A Lemon!!
The nicest of nice things!
You have proven you're nice by giving me my favorite thing.
To find Mr. Moustafa, go to the shop in this town.
First buy a Dried Shroom. Then buy a Dusty Hammer.
You must buy them in the correct order, yes? Remember, Dried Shroom first
and then Dusty Hammer.
This is a secret sign known to those loyal to Moustafa.
If you buy these things in the correct order,
the owner of the shop will let you see Mr. Moustafa.
Remember, you must not buy them in the incorrect order!
I wish you luck in finding Mr. Moustafa, nice guy.
Hoo boy. Okay, let's get this over with so we can see whatshismouse.
...is a secret sign that only friends of Mr. Moustafa know!
... That means...
You're in with Moustafa!
Hey! Brother!
Good to meet you! Have any questions you need answered?
...You want to see Mr. Moustafa?
He's usually up on the highest part of Dry Dry Outpost.
Just keep going up, my man!
So you gotta get high to meet him? I dunno where any dealers are in tow--
oh, wait. He probably means climbing.
Huh, the door's ajar! And beyond...
Crates to climb up! Boss!
Yay, another letter!
...Hey, it's just that Sheek guy again! What a ripoff! >:|
ROUND... ONE... FIGHT! He leads in with a Psycho Crusher, but Mario
recovers and... Okay, that's not what happens, sadly.
...Yes, Moustafa is my name.
When I'm out and about in Dry Dry Outpost, I use the name Sheek.
You look nice enough. I'm a good judge of character.
I've been watching you ever since you came to town.
I still can't believe you found me without being told.
I think you must have extremely good luck, yes?
Your name is Mario, yes?
I heard that you want to go to Dry Dry Ruins.
I have a feeling you are on an important journey, so I will tell you the
secret.
Dry Dry Ruins is a very important place. My ancestors have watched over it
for many generations.
If I do not keep evil folk out of the ruins, who will?
You must promise me that you will tell no one this secret!
Don't worry, nobody will know this except Mario, Luigi, Peach, the various
weirdos following Mario, and everyone reading this.
I'll give you this.
This Pulse Stone is the key to finding Dry Dry Ruins.
Take it to the desert, yes?
I think I'd rather take it to the bridge, but okay.
The Pulse Stone will flash above your head as you get close to the
ruins.
The closer you get to the ruins, the faster the Pulse Stone will flash.
Follow where it leads you!
Find the place where the Pulse Stone flashes the fastest and use it to
open the way.
So, back out into the desert.
Hmm, that looks like a traveling Nomadimouse. Let's give him that letter.
Anyway, thank you for delivering it.
I'm surprised that you found me way out here.
It's extremely hot traveling in the desert, so take care.
Oh yeah!
Take this as my thanks!
Don't hesitate. Please take it.
He gives Mario a Star Piece, and Mario heads deeper into the desert to
find the ruins...
Stay tuned for more dry, dry commentary on the dry, dry desert!
