Let's Play: Paper Mario! part seventeen

Aug 31, 2007 19:47

This one has a bit more quest-fetching and seeing what's what like last
time, but it will catch the plot before the end, so read on!

Heading back into the sewers, Mario sees another stompable floorboard:

Taking advantage of his new floor-busting butt power, he smashes through
it, and finds...

Another place where a raft would come in handy.

An unobtainable Super Block... And also, another new enemy!

What a stylish purple shell! :D
Dark Koopas are Koopa Troopas who live in the Toad Town Tunnels.
They're known for causing dizziness.
Be extra careful when you see 'em grin, because that means they're
getting ready to do their dizzy attack.
Their defense power is 0 when they're turned over, so you should use Jump
attacks.
Mario falls prey to the dizzying effect for several turns in a row, so
it's Goombario who actually beats them. And once he does...

A shortcut to Boo Mansion opens up! Hooray, no more having to run back
and forth through the forest!

Speaking of shortcuts, Mario heads back to Koopa Village to see if the old
Koot's got more work for him, which of course he does:

A newspaper would be the best way for me to catch up, no?
Would you mind reading the Toad Town News for me?
You could tell me the news then. My eyes aren't so good, see?
Don't spare all the juicy gossip, either! I'm all ears!
...But you're a turtle, you don't *have* ears.
Hurry up if you can.
I'm losing touch here!
Promise me you will?
And so, bound as he is by a geas to always do what old people want him to,
Mario returns to Toad Town and reads the bulletin board:

Breaking news on our continuing ghost coverage:
It seems that a single Boo was responsible for all of the sightings in
town.
This Boo was merely looking for a brave soul to help vanquish a Boo-
eating monster.
Mario, of course, took the challenge and punished the great beast, freeing
another Star Spirit in the process.
Afterlife has returned to normal for the Boos, so the town hauntings
should cease.
Next week's editorial:
Why Mario is The Man!

Mario returns to Koopa Koot and serves him the news.

Ah...so that's what's going on in the world.
I'm not sure I believe all those wild tales, but I suppose if you say
so...
It's nice to catch up on the current lingo. I've had a hard time
understanding youngsters lately. Now I'm "hip."
He gives Mario a coin, then has another chore for him:
I"ve been ailing a bit lately. I'd like to get a Life Shroom, you know,
to have on hand just in case of an emergency.
I must have one! I must! Please, please find one for me! You should be
able to find one at select shops.
Please hurry--I'm not feeling well at all.
You promise to return?
Luckily, Mario doesn't even need to leave the house, as he bought a spare
Life Shroom at Boo Mansion!
Oh, by the musty Shroom!
You're a peach, Mario!
He is not, he doesn't have the hips to fit in her dress! Um, not that he's
tried it on ever...
I feel ten times better, and twenty years younger! Maybe I'll go jog!
After my nap.
Mario gets another coin as well as a Gold Credit, but who cares about
gambling when you get an absurd amount of money already?
I do have this sudden craving for one of Tayce T.'s scrumptious Nutty
Cakes.
The secret ingredient is the Goomnut, which grows on certain trees.
If memory serves right (which it doesn't always) you can find them near
someone's house...
I dont' know if that helps, but you still have to find one so Tayce T. can
bake the cake.
I'm getting pretty famished, actually. Would you hurry up? Promise?
Mario can't bear to tell the old man that Tayce T. can't cook anything
for a while, so he just heads to Goomba Village and whacks the tree
there.

Since that's all he can do for Koot for now, Mario returns to Toad Town
and heads for the west end and hears a familiar voice call his name:

We found out that you defeated Tubba Blubba!
I knew you could do it! I just knew it!
When we heard the news, the princess was very relieved.
Oh, yes... I've got new information about the honorable Star Spirits who
are still imprisoned.
Have you guys ever heard of Shy Guy's Toy Box?
It seems that one of the honorable Star Spirits is being held there.
...But where on earth is Shy Guy's Toy Box? I have no idea...
...Oh, time is short! I have to go back to the Princess now.
Good luck, Mario!
Princess Peach and I are always cheering you on.
And once again, Twink starkles off into the sky, leaving Mario to ponder
the mystery of the Toy Box.

But where... Where could they be hiding around here?
Unless I miss my guess, they must be in a house. Dig me?
Yeah, brother, I can dig it.

Do you suppose... Could that be the Shy Guy hideout?

What do you guys think about finding their hideout and taking them on
ourselves?
Red Toad: Yeah, there's a plan! But have you ever seen those guys
run? They're way too fast. If they see us, they'll bolt.
...Wait! I know!
Why don't we turn invisible?
If we do, the Shy Guys will be off guard and reveal themselves to us.
Yellow Toad: Uh... One problem, guys. How do we become invisible?

How indeed. But, before going to check it out, Mario heads to the docks to
see if he can get a little action--I mean, get more clues.

See what I'm talking about? Well, if you go straight and walk onto the
pier, you'll be able to see it.
It bothers me for some reason. I think I just saw it move!

I've been watching it, and it seems to move sometimes. Spooky. I wonder
what it is...

Wow, that's freaky!

Okay, that's it for today. Tune in next time!
