RPG-related poll, come one come all and vote!

Let's say you're playing an RPG, and you come upon some badass new piece of equipment that almost all of your party can use. How do you decide who'll get it?
As a longtime RPG player, I've been curious as to how other people consider this question, so I decided to make a poll.

If it's offensive: the character who'd get the biggest stat boost from it.

If it's defensive and the game has no concept of 'formation': the character with the lowest relevant stats.

If it's defensive and the game does have 'formation': the character in front, provided that character can hand the old piece of equipment down to the person behind, and so forth.

So, you know, in general whatever makes the party more capable!

Favoritism, failing that, whoever needs it the most (that I actually use in battles)

You mean there are people who *don't* allocate gear by stats?

Depends on the system and the situation. Favoritism plays a part but it depends on how the game system works and how stats and abilities figure into the whole thing. Example: if someone has an absurdly low defense, I might give them the best armor. But if someone has absurdly high defense and can act as a tank or support, I might give them the best armor instead because they can help out the others.

Offensively I would typically capitalize on the strongest offense (+-favoritism) OR I would give it to one of the weaker people depending on the situation. For example, if the guy with the most offense is strong enough that he doesn't really NEED more, I might give it to someone weaker to put them on a similar level to make battles go quicker, or in case they have free turns where they don't need to defend/support/otherwise not attack.

But again, it really depends. I would equip people differently in Disgaea vs, say, Chrono Trigger, because they are entirely different games and entirely different situations will come up.

This is pretty much my answer, too.
