Spielberg is a huge fan of GitS and he fought tooth and nail to get the rights to make this movie. I can tell it's in the right hands - you KNOW the kinds of movies Spielberg likes and they're the ones that shine.
It's all CG with voice actors (if I remember right) so no need to worry about it giving the feeling of being shoe-horned. It's not like there's any real live person who could faithfully replicate Kusanagi anyway :B
THE ONLY way that this movie would bee really cool is if and ONLY if they have Mary Eliabeth McGlynn as the major. If not then it really is stupid, they going to kill avatar with m night shyamalan making it. *dies*
