Do either of those have an overarching plot or is it more like the (mostly) independent chapters in the first? Do either introduce new concepts/changes? I ask because the anime introduced various changes and further explanation/clarification (for the better imo) and I wonder if some of those were in manga form first, especially since those were written close to when the internet was becoming popular and internet sub-culture was developing.
This is a bit unrelated, but something confused me. Sometimes you can see Batou with a walkie-talkie in his hand, but why would he even use when he can use the wireless connection in his head? Is it just assumed he's in autistic mode?
The anime series' are completely different from anything that happens in the manga. The chapters from 1.5 and 2 were published interchangeably happening at the same time but had nothing to do with each other. One story line follows the Major's new life (2) and section 9 in the other (1.5). There are many new concepts introduced in 2 but some of them are beyond the scope of the reader as they are not very well explained. The 2nd has a plot that carries over the whole book while 1.5 is a bunch of stand alone chapters.
It's not explained why Batou has a walkie-talkie at times. I honestly never really noticed it.
Hmmm, I think I'll check them out then, thanks for the explanation. I think the most confusing stuff, sometimes even with explanation, is when Shirow tries to get into religion/paranormal. Honestly, a lot of the religious/supernatural stuff sounds like a drug-induced, stream of consciousness ranting. I just pretend it's the characters' personal views and don't actually reflect the GitS universe, since it doesn't really fit the sci-fi atmosphere well.
