On Saturday night, Cassie went from chipper to writhing on the couch and crying. After a few quick questions and taking her temperature, which was slightly elevated, I decided to take her to the ER. She was having sharp stomach pains on her right side. Also, there was a storm coming, and I didn't really want to wait to see if it got worse.

Constipation in kids does happen frequently, though-- the bowel maturing a bit slowly is usually the culprit-- so unless it becomes chronic I wouldn't worry.

Next time though, ask them to slip some dilaudid in her IV to take off the pain edge.
