 You know how sometimes, when you get a phone call for a wrong number, the person who's calling just goes straight into talking about something? Or when they realize you're not who they wanted to talk to, but won't believe that person's not there and this isn't their phone? I probably would have done exactly what you did. Better to embarrass the guy than read about him in the obituaries.

Phones are such freaky things. We used to get automated collect calls from the Denver County Jail, usually from men with very long Hispanic-sounding names. And once we had a detailed message on our voicemail in a language we couldn't identify. It sounded Arabic. You'd think people would be logical: "Hmm, this number was answered in English, so maybe they don't speak Farsi."
