My mom never said tv or computers were evil. My dads side think both are bad for kids.

Almost every morning my aunt yells at my kids for watching tv or playing on computer instead of going outside or reading a book. My kids read books before they go to bed at night. They go hiking around mountains when on vacation. Some of the richest smartest people I know are on computer all day for work. They get payed more then people who flip

Moderation, right? Can't do much to make money using a computer if you can't read. Can't understand the deeper level of some video games if you don't have a rich background in literature. Don't think you can teach a kid to read by sitting them in front of a DVD, you actually have to interact, talk about books together, etc. Reading promotes a longer attention span and better concentration than computer games, TV or the internet, but the modern world does function with computers.

Yes, I read a lot when I was growing up, but my spelling did not get better til I had to use computers to talk to people a lot. I had to really buckle down and make sure I spelled stuff right or they would not understand me or think I was stupid or a little kid.
