Summary: It's Koyama's birthday and he waits for Shige's birthday message.
It's two minutes until midnight and Koyama is eagerly waiting for his phone to start buzzing with heart-filled happy birthday messages. He remembers last year when Shige had mailed him exactly at twelve with the most touching words. Thanking Koyama and telling him just how important their friendship was for him, and the thought is enough for Koyama to smile happily. The message is saved onto his phone and whenever he feels like he needs some encouragement he picks it up to read it again.
Watching the clock on his bedside table he catches the exact moment when he turns one year older and he's excitedly turning his eyes to the thing in his hand, waiting for the first birthday wish. It goes on minute, two minutes, three minutes and it's weird, Shige is usually right on. Maybe his clock isn't going right? He checks another, no that one shows four minutes late too. Then, finally he receives a mail, it's from Shige and he opens it feeling all giddy after the wait.
When he opens it he gets a little disappointed, there is only one line written.

To: Kei
“Are you home and awake?”
Why wouldn't he be? Shige knows he doesn't have any work tomorrow, unless he's forgotten about his birthday all together. Feeling slightly betrayed he answers shortly and without enthusiasm before throwing his phone to the foot of his bed.
From: Kei
To: Shiggy-chan
“Yes.”
He lies himself down and wait for something, anything or maybe nothing, just staying on his bed as a few more minutes pass, Shige isn't writing anything back. Koyama lets out a sigh and turns his head away from the clock. At that moment the doorbell suddenly chimes. “Eh?”
Koyama walks up and peeks out of his bedroom door, maybe he's imagining things? No there it is again, there really is someone outside and he goes to open, revealing a panting Shige who's leaning against the wall. Koyama just stares at him dumbfounded. “Shige? What are you doing here?”
“Are you going to let me in?” Shige smiles and Koyama moves to let him inside. He watches as his friend takes off his shoes and notices the bag in Shige's hand. He follows thee younger man as he moves to the kitchen, putting down the bag on the table before he sits down himself. Koyama does the same and waits for the explanation that should be coming about right now.
Then a dazzling smile is sent his way and it makes him shiver. The younger is digging in the bag and pulls up a small box. “I know I'm a little late, but I had to run from the filming sight. Happy birthday Kei.”
Shige pushes the present towards him and he can't help but feeling surprised as he picks it up. “You, you came here to give me this?”
When his friend nods he can feel the tears welling up and a pang off guilt hits him for thinking the other had forgotten about him earlier. Suddenly feeling a little nervous he turns his attention back to the thing in his hands and unwrapped it. It's really small and he wonders what Shige could have gotten him. As he opens the present he freezes as he see what's inside and stares at his friend in astonishment. Shige however is adverting his gaze and doesn't look at Koyama as he speaks.
“A few years ago you asked me if you could give me love for present since you couldn't come up with anything, but that year you gave me a shirt, so I figured I just had to give it to you now in stead. My love that is.” When he is finished it's with red stained cheeks and Koyama can feel his heart racing.
“Do... Do you mean. With this. I mean...” He doesn't know if he dares interpret the meaning of it as he picks up the little message that was inside the small box, a single paper with the words: “I love you Kei.” written on it.
“What I mean is that I love you, and I don't mean just as a friend.” Now Shige is finally looking at him, and what eyes he does it with, dark brown burning with emotion. It makes Koyama's head spin, he can't quite believe this is happening. Then Shige is standing up again and in the few seconds it takes for him to take it in a pair of lips is already covering his own.
They are warm and soft Koyama can't remember ever feeling anything like it before. He's kissing back and tries to put in all emotions he has suppressed over the years, hoping that Shige can feel them all in this moment.
When they pull back they are both out of breath and they stay close enough for their noses to brush against each other. Both of them are overwhelmed with emotion and Koyama smiles into the touch when Shige caress his cheek and then leans in for a second kiss.
“I love you too.” Koyama practically beams when he after all this time finally can say those words without fear and he thinks that this is the best birthday he has ever had.
Finally a KoyaShige fic from me! I've been writing a lot of RyOhkura lately (not that there is anything wrong with that), but as it is Kei's 26th birthday and all I just had to put something up, so I wrote this! (I've also posted another KoyaShige drabble to celebrate Kei: Cat)
