Chapter 1 - I won't cry

A man named Nishikido Ryo was sitting in the furthest back of the train staring blankly out the window, oblivious to anything happening around him. He sighed deeply not really aware that he did.

Outside it was already dark, it was late and the shinkansen was still far from his destination. He was on his way back from Tokyo, he was planning to stay in his family's house in Osaka for a couple of days, maybe longer. He was extremely tired, but still unable to sleep. He was thinking. His whole brain was filled to the edge, on the verge of explosion.

'A shattered plate cut into Ryo's hands as he lay on the floor looking up at the person who meant the world to him. His best friend and lover Uchi was looking down  on him with a cold expression, seemingly uncaring that he'd just hurt the very same person he'd sworn to protect.

"Uchi... Wh... Did something happen?" Ryo's voice was hoarse, both out of the pain he felt in his hands, the now swallowing bruise on his cheek and also from the shock of a first strike from a person he knew to be peaceful and loveable.

Without a word Uchi turned away from the bleeding man on the floor and left their apartment.'

All desperate thoughts, of choices, bad memories, good memories and questions he didn't want to answer. He knew he had to, but it wouldn't be easy for him. This brake from work was a good opportunity to use for calming down and to sort things out. Because this was just one of those things you had to deal with no matter how hard or complicated. Simply, because he still loved him.

It had all started when his boyfriend got suspended from work. He was a cop but had been caught drinking while still on duty, it had also ended unnecessarily ugly with the assault of a civil man. Ryo knew it was stupid of Uchi to do such a thing and that his lover only had himself to blame. Still somehow Ryo couldn't help but feel that it was his fault, everything that had followed.

At first it had just been plain coldness toward Ryo, which he never quite understood and just interpreted as a slight depression over his temporary absence from the thing he loved to do most. Cause there was no arguing there. Uchi Hiroki loved being a cop and had been overly proud when he'd told Ryo that he'd been accepted at the police academy. A few years later when he was done with his training and finally could call himself a true member of the police force Uchi had smiled brightly at Ryo while showing of his new badge and own gun while laughing and enjoying life like there was no tomorrow. They had both been truly happy that day.

' Uchi's laughter spread trough Ryos' body like a warm cup of chocolate a cold december morning. "You should have seen Kusano's face when sensei announced that I was his best student! HA! That ass-kisser and his stupid preponderance got crushed like a bug" Ryo smiled at the happy face Uchi was making as he ranted on about how things finally was going his way and that karma always finds you.

"Ne, Ryo... We should celebrate this, don't you think?" While saying this a naughty expression appeared on Uchi's handsome features and Ryo was fast to catch the hint. His day was just about to get even better '

Lifting his head a little looking out of the trains window the black-haired man smiled faintly at the happy memory which now seemed more like a dream to him than an old piece of his actual life.

Uchi and Ryo had met in the last year of High School when Uchi suddenly had transferred in the middle of the first semester. They had grown so close, so fast and had been inseparable ever since. When they first had announced to the world that they where more than “just friends” it had been hard for their families to accept at first, but with some time and also a little help from their friends it all ended well and safe. They had been blissful.

' Sakuratrees surrounded them as they walked through the park heading home to their newly bought apartment as the younger one of the two suddenly broke the comfortable silence. "Don't you you think it's the best that we can hold hands like this?" Ryo looked up a little surprised at the question, then he smiled and replied "Baka, you sound like a high-school girl" smirking in his head Ryo looked away from Uchi. "Mou, Ryo...You meanie." Uchi pouted and hit Ryo slightly on his shoulder. "Itte!" The shorter man turned to look at his boyfriend and was met with a childish pout and a tongue pointing out at him. Ryo smiled, his boyfriend truly was a baka. '

But now was different. Now even the slight coldness which was previously shown towards him was something he would welcome. Today it had been two full months since both their lives had taken a drastic change. It was raining outside now, just as if the sky itself had taken on Ryo's troubles and cried instead of him. It hurt to think of what they'd become after the incident, but Ryo would not cry. If he cried it would somehow mean that he no longer could take it, that he'd given up on their love. Even their friendship, the bond locking them together would brake.

No, he would not cry and surrender, he would wait for a day when everything would go back. The clocks would turn and Uchi would be his happy, loving, childish, clumsy self. Yes, Ryo told himself. Soon it will be all good again. It would probably be better already when he returned from Osaka. Uchi would be sorry and then they could forget and just be together again. As he slowly went through everything in his mind he awoke new hope in himself telling that things surely would change back. Uchi would come crying for forgiveness just as when he'd taken the last piece of Ryo's favorite cake and he would smile and hit him on the head for his stupidity. He convinced himself that even though this was a way more serious issue than a piece of cake Uchi would realize his mistake and somehow go back to being the naive boy he loved so much.

' As Ryo entered their home he was immediately met with the stench of alcohol. What was Uchi thinking drinking this much before it was even time for dinner? He hurriedly took of his shoes and set for the living room from where the smell seemed to emit.

"Uchi!" He was met with a sight he'd never expected to see. It was Uchi laying spread out on the floor with tons of bottles and cans surrounding him. He was unconscious. Panic started to spread inside of him as Ryo set himself down beside Uchi and lifted his lovers head and put it in his lap as he slapped his cheeks to try and wake him. "Uchi, come on... Wake up. Uchi!"

A slurred answer was heard, weak, but nonetheless there. "Ry...o... ?" His eyes remained close but at least he was awake and alive "Th... They... I g-got..."  Uchi was crying "Schh.. It's okey... You can just tell me tomorrow. You..." Ryo swallowed the lump in his throat "You should sleep, I'll be here ok?" A short pause and then a weak "Ok..." As Ryo was slowly calming down he lifted Uchi's body from the floor and carried him to bed wondering what in the world that had happened. '

The shinkansen slowed down. It was his stop. He felt that somehow Uchi had never meant to hit him, it was just an act out of desperation. At least that was what he had to keep telling himself. He wanted things to go back to how it used to be and he would try damned hard to get that before giving in. Uchi still was the most important being in his 25 years long life.

' Ryo put his arm protectivly around the bigger body and pulled him closer "I do. You know that..." But Uchi was persistent  "Well, I want you to say it!" This was obviously one of those things that the stubborn man in his arms wouldn't let go, so with a sigh Ryo finally gave  in. "Ok. I love you... I love you more than anything else in this damned world! Happy now?" A little blush was decorating Ryo's face as Uchi smiled happily and leand in to kiss him. "See, that wasn't so hard, now was it?" While deepening the kiss Ryo thought that maybe, just maybe he really should tell Uchi of his love more often. '

So, with a little more faith, a whole lot of determination and a small smile decorating his face Ryo stepped out on the platform. It was now 1:30 am and he knew that he would have to run to catch the last bus home. To take a cab was just as easy, but why spend the extra money when he just as well could take the bus as it had a stop real close to his house. So he went out in the rain and started to run towards the bus station. It was poring down heavier now and the wind also picked up by the second. Ryo was just about to cross a street when a bright light hit him from the left side, accompanied with a piercing sound.

Then, there was nothing. Just a black nothing.

I'm so sorry for the crappy summary by the way... But I didn't want to spoil it all. Is that ok?

This is my first fic here! And also my first JE fic EVER!!! Woot! I'm thinking of making it a multichapter. What do you think? If you liked it please say so, it would make we happy and keep me motivated. Also be aware that English isn't my first language and also that I wrote this in the middle of the night in one go. So please be gentle but truthful! ^^

Oh, and I don't hate Kusano. Sorry!  I just needed someone to have that character and his name was the first one that came to mind.
