You'd think that by 7th year we could speak up about things that we felt made no sense without being treated like insulent children.

Slughorn doesn't think so.

Slughorn rarely listens to anything that doesn't fit in his point of view.
He let a cauldron explode once even though I repeatingly told him that his instructions were messed up at one point.

It wasn't your cauldron was it?

Because if it were you'd need to show me where it hurt you so I could kiss away any residual injury.

No, it was not mine.

But I still got burned by flying goo.

That's good.

Perhaps some soothing salve would work nicely.

Wait... Slughorn thinks?

It would seem a logical assumption. Then again, the fact that he ranted on about taking him at his word ma mean he is unable to think beyond the realm of what his instruction manual says.

At least Professor Snape encouraged the why questions as long as they were asked within a decent framework.

Snape was by far the better potions professor. His lectures may have left a little to be desired but at least he knew what he was doing.

If I ever get too bored I may go in early one day and mislabel reagents for the days work just to see if he notices.

The man knew his stuff. Of course that's about the only nice thing that can be said about the man.

Just warn me before you do so. I'd hate to be the one who gets a face full of exploding ash.

That's why I just quietly do my work, hand it in, and cater to what he wants to hear.

Yes, I suppose that would work. However, I feel that seeing we are practically adults now we should be able to question the why's of spells in order to better understand what it is we are doing. Not only that but so we can tweak what is needed later in life if the necessity ever arises.

I think it's all in how you ask the questions. You kind of have to tailor the way you ask questions for each professor - and know when it's best to ask them after class.

I'm still of the opinion that by seventh year we should be treated as adults and inquisitive peers not as annoying children.
