...wishing you where here...

Feb 09, 2004 12:35

I have just returned from four days of snowboarding & relaxing in the mountains of North Carolina. It was such a much-needed break, escape, time away from Gainesville and from the remaining sums of my life. In truth, I didn't know how badly I needed this "time away" till I was there ( Read more... )

wow...couldn't help to comment on your lj...it's not too often that i go through ljs but when i did..i was like whoa i live here, and then i looked outside real quick and i was like "yep i live here" i love North Carolina the 4 seasons are wonderful..but Asheville...yuck! i only like Lexington Ave. I just got a parking ticket there last week...there is a little record shop called Green Eggs and Jam...love it...otherwise it is very "hippi" my cousins punk band played there a time ago and the "punks" there were like making fun of them for wearing deoderant and shit...I like living in Waynesville though..glad you had fun...the snow is wonderful!!! were you at Cataloochie? take care, danielle sutton

ehehe

Thanks so much for responding danielle. Yes...I agree, I felt a big "hippi" thang there. Dreads are dirty & soap is a good thing hehehe. I did, however, meet and see some cool indie kids there too. I liked Vincent's ear, the sofa bar, and Rosetta's to name a few. There was a really cool tattoo studio there too, but I can't quite remember the name of the place. I enjoyed my time there, but I realize I’d need more time to establish a more concrete opinion. I’d like to visit again.
I stayed at Wolf Laurel Mt. I did have a free pass to Cataloochie though (not enough time :( ) Hmmm what's in Waynesville? What makes you happy there?
It's late. I'm a little tipsy. It was a long night of dancing with friends. Good times Good times. I hope you are well. Sweet dreams. Thanks again for reaching out. Stay in touch.

Kevin-
You don't know how insanely jealous you have made me. Not only were you in my favorite place to visit ever (asheville), close to good friends of mine and the fondest of my childhood memories you got to play in snow and snowboard (although i would have ripped it up on skis personally) which is one of my favorite activities that I never get to do. I am so glad that you had a marvelous time and could experience North Carolina in a positive way.
Great pictures by the way.

Awe...ya.

Sking is totally different than snowboarding, as you are well aware of. I never skied before and snowboarding was the only thing I've experienced thus far. It was so fun, and pretty easy at times. I wiped out more than I could count though hehe. My friends who ski get totally fustrated by snowboarding because they're so used to bombing and rippin up the slopes. They have to start at square one and change their body physics etc. Man, I'd love to see the 4 seasons there someday soon. I can only imagine how beautiful it must be.
Take care audrey. I hope you had a good time last night :)

wow. I love the kitten. anywho.
I had a blast last night. Thanks for saving me when I fell.
I tried snowboarding one day on a ski trip and was on my butt more than I was on my feet, after that I went back to skis.

I visited Asheville on a whim with a friend who grew up there - it was a really neat town! I went on a hayride in a pick-up truck (???) and bought a cute cowgirl jacket. Everything seemed designed to really make it okay to make outside of the mainstream lifestyle choices. I wonder if that gets old after a while or if a place like that is really a utopia!

Hmmm...ya.

I totally agree. It is very much like that in the downtown area. However, I'm not sure about the rest of the town. It had a really small town feel because there were more visable local/small business than main stream corporate establishments. I didn't see one Star Bucks!?! I learned from a local there that housing was really really expensive and wages were well below average market value, but if you can secure a good job, the relative cost of living is fairly low.
I could see myself living there though if things were right. maybe. eh.
I'll probably spend the rest of my life here in G-ville because this place is already heaven on earth, ya know? hehehe

I really like the 1rst and 3rd ones... you like you're having an epiphany in the first one, and the third... is just surreal.

It was surreal. Every moment in the snow was like an awakening. It was the happiest I've been in a long long time. I wanted to stay longer...but all dreams must come to an end.

Hey sweetie, I went to your b-day party but by the time I got there you were already passed out in some closet....awwwwe.. hehehe good times ;)
