I know what you mean..this is kind of a reverse situation but my mom works as a nurse midwife and is usually the first person to touch or hold someone as they come into the world..i often think what an amazing position to be in.. you are the first introduction this person has to the world..she has also done a lot of work with indigenous villages and wad the midwife for the hare krishna farm in Colorado.. twice she had met someone that she helped bring into the world many years later.. she looked like she was about to faint once when she met these people..i found that facinating..your brother has a lot hanging over his shoulders but it seems that he is dealing with this place well...
My brother is the right man for the job. He's very good under preasure and a natural born leader. I worry that he may become too apathetic, but perhaps that's what's necessary for the role and life he's choosen.
Inregards to your mom, that's really amazing. She must overwhelmed with life's miracle and beauty. My brother has delivered babies too. He though it was pretty cool. hehehe
i remember when you told me about your brother, and what he did for a living. i swear, nearly every time i think im having a bad week at work, the mental image of darwin springs to mind.
as bad as i might think i have it, someone else is doing much more than i could fathom.
Ya man...he definitely keeps me humble and in check. But life is relative…and you always return to that. I guess that’s why happiness and pain will always be such a mystery for some…
i know what you mean. the people in the medical world have absolutly crazy lives. i grew up with it as you know and i sometimes day dream about how life would be if my dad had been around more as i grew up. when i was two, in a moment that i am reminded of by my parents my dad a resident at the time walked in after being gone over 48 hours, his beeper went off and i asked "do you have to go home to the hospital or can you stay here?" still though i am amazed and wowed that he has been able to save and improve so many lives. it takes a really special kinds of person.
"do you have to go home to the hospital or can you stay here?"
hahaha..I totally know how that is...not only with my brother, but my father too (growing up). Because of this, I put a high priority on free time and quality time. I what to be around.
Your writing is so moving. And your photos as well. I don't know what to say. I am impressed. My brother is a nurse, often working with hospice patients. I greatly respect anyone who can deal with human suffering on such a basis as your brother and mine.
Thank you Mr. M for the warm comments. I too enjoy reading your posts. Your voice really comes through. You should post some pictures up too! I bet they would be awesome. Sometimes pictures are a thousand words. Last night, I could put my thoughts in order (being drunk doesn't help either) and so posting a self portrait of my emotional state seemed fiting. I have a LJ friend [persphone415] who does this a lot and very well. She's one of my dearest friends here in g-ville. Check out her page. She too writes very well.
Regardless, I hope you are having a wonderful day my friend.
today was a day--I'm still trying to figure it out. But thanks for the good wishes. I hope your day is going well too. I would put some pictures up if I had anything worthwhile yet. But I am working on it :) onward and upward...
aww this post made me miss my brother.... although he is doing the exact opposite, killing people in Iraq (okay so he hasn't killed anybody)....he'll be 23 and a veteran of foreign wars...:(
Man...my best friend since kindergarden (23+ yrs of friendship) is in Iraq too. i'm so worried. I love him. Nothing better happen to him or else I'm going to steal a nuke and set it off there. I feel your pain sweetie...God I do. Let's pray together.
