'RINGGGG!!!!!'

Amanda opened her eyes with a start. She groaned, pulling the pillow over her head, thinking that it was the start of another miserable day. Hitting the snooze button, she turned on her side and closed her eyes. She was drifting off to dreamland again when the door to her room burst open.

'Hey! Wake up! You don't want to be late for school!'

'Mum! It's just another boring school day!'

'Have you forgotten? It's Valentine's Day!'

Gasping, Amanda jolted up and sprinted to the bathroom as fast as her legs could carry her. How could she have forgotten such an important day? Mentally chiding herself, she hurriedly gulped down her breakfast and rushed to the bus stop, not forgetting to grab the carefully wrapped gift that she had prepared for that special someone.

Luckily for her, she was just on time. As she reached the bus stop, she spotted her bus approaching and quickly flagged it down. Boarding the bus, her eyes scanned the sea of faces, stopping at a very familiar one. She smiled and strolled over to her best friend, Kim Ryeowook. Seeing her, he flashed a heart-stopping smile. She smiled back, keeping her cool demeanor even though her heart was thumping wildly.

Yes, her heart was thumping wildly. You see, she had been harboring a secret crush for him for months now. She did not dare confess her feelings for fear of ruining their friendship. He most probably thought of her as what they are, best friends. Besides, what chance did she have with Kim Ryeowook, one of the most popular boys in school? Speaking of popularity, she would most probably be laughed at again by those three bitchy girls, the sonority princesses, for not getting as many Valentines as them.

'Um, Amanda, are you ok?' Ryeowook questioned, gently tapping her shoulder.

'Huh?' Amanda, who had been lost in her own thoughts, was pulled into reality.

Ryeowook repeated his question.

'Oh yeah, I'm fine,' Amanda lied, attempting to smile and look happy, which she obviously failed as Ryeowook raised an eyebrow dubiously.

'Ok, ok, maybe I was worrying about getting teased for the number of Valentines I received,' Amanda admitted sheepishly.

'It's ok, ignore them, they're jerks. It's not about how many Valentines you get, it's about how sincere the writers are.' Ryeowook mummered comfortingly, pulling Amanda into a hug, ignoring the glares of a few girls who were dressed in the same uniform as they were.

Amanda nodded, mumbling a thanks before pulling away as they reached school. Ryeowook grabbed her hand before alighting the bus. Grinning at her half-hearted protests, he dragged her to school.

As soon as they stepped into class, Amanda was separated from Ryeowook by a group of fans eager to get his attention on this special day. Shooting an apologetic glance at Amanda, Ryeowook turned his focus on them, trying to turn them down gently.

Amanda sighed heavily. She knew that she was just asking for heartache by falling in love with Ryeowook. Despite his quietness, he was very popular in school, mainly due to his caring attitude and his charming looks. It also helped that he was best friends with Kyuhyun, the main playboy in school.

Amanda's long chain of miserable thoughts was interrupted by the voice of her form teacher asking the class to greet her. Amanda curiously eyed the red box that her teacher was holding. The teacher smiled, realizing that all eyes were on the box. She quickly told them that in order to keep the identity of the giver anonymous, they could put their gift in the box.

Amanda frowned. Put her gift that she had worked on so hard in that box with all the other common cards? No way was she going to do that! She turned to glance at Ryeowook just in time to see him put something in the box. She widened her eyes as gasps were heard from around the class. Ryeowook was giving a Valentine? To who? Amanda suddenly realized the answer. He must have decided to give her one to cheer her up! She smiled. Trust Ryeowook to be so sweet and ignore the fact that there would be a scandal if anyone found out.

Sure enough, when the Valentines were distributed, she found a card from Ryeowook. It was cut from red colored paper into a perfect heart. The silver glitter on it wrote, 'Dear Amanda, have a happy Valentine's Day. You deserve it. Love, Kim Ryeowook.'

Amanda smiled at the sweetness of the card as she floated into seventh heaven in delight. To think that Ryeowook would give her a Valentine! It was the best Valentine she had ever received! She let her imagination run wild and went off into a dream where Ryeowook loved her with all his heart and there was no one to interfere with their relationship.

She was so absorbed in her daydream that she failed to notice that most of her classmates were staring at her curiously. Almost everyone was out of their seats talking with their friends, all save Amanda and Ryeowook. There was a dreamy look on her face and she was clutching something tightly to her chest, attracting unwanted attention from her classmates. As for Ryeowook, the slight smile on his face as he watched Amanda did not go unnoticed. Soon, many people were eyeing the pair curiously.

Quickly noticing the silence of the class, her bullies ceased their teasing of an unfortunate girl to focus their attention on Amanda.Poor Amanda was rudely jolted out of her thoughts for the third time that day as Ryeowook's Valentine was snatched out of her grasp. The leader of the group, Jessica quickly held the Valentine out of Amanda's reach and read the glittered words out loud. A shocked silence filled the classroom as everyone turned to look at Ryeowook, whose face was rapidly turning red.

Furious and blinded with jealousy, Jessica reacted on impulse and shredded the card into bits and pieces. Flinging the debris into her face, she roughly shoved Amanda off her chair. Amanda winced as she hit the ground hard.

'You? And Ryeowook? That'll never happen! How can it? I'm prettier than you, and can handle men better than you! Besides, I'm richest girl in school! I'm definitely the girl for him!' Jessica laughed hysterically.

'Yes, who do you think you are? You're one of the quietest girls in class, are you seriously trying to compete with us? We've managed to seduce tons of popular guys before and Ryeowook won't be any different!' Hyoyeon, Jessica's friend snarled, shooting Amanda a murderous look.

'Don't be foolish, you'll never win against us! You're nothing. No one cares about you, so don't even bother trying. As for us, we've got guys hunting us down every other day.' Tiffany, the third girl in their league proclaimed, smirking.

'Why are we wasting time with this good-for-nothing girl? Let's go!' Jessica exclaimed, turning her back on Amanda with Hyoyeon and Tiffany following suit, leaving poor Amanda sitting on the cold, hard floor, eyes watering.

Jessica strode straight to Ryeowook, who, like the others present, was too stunned by the actions of the so-called 'sweet' girls from the elite society, to move from his seat. He blinked as Jessica's face suddenly appeared in front of his, much too close for his liking. Jessica smiled in a sickeningly sweet manner and batted her eyelashes flirtatiously as she leaned across the table.

'Ryeowook oppa, you don't need to sympathize with commoners like that girl there. You're much too superior for that! Especially as there are many other girls who are more worthy for you! Take us for example, we're popular, rich, gorgeous, smart, what more do you want? You're always welcome to visit our room anytime you want!' she said coyly and invitingly.

Ryeowook scrunched his nose in disgust. He stood up abruptly and shoved Jessica away from him harshly. He shot her a contemptuous glare and said, 'Sorry, I'm not interested. Especially not with girls like you who have no shame! You have no right to criticize anyone. Sure, Amanda may not be as popular or as pretty as you, but that does not matter. What really matters is her personality and inner beauty which, unlike yours, is actually likable! You bully people just for the fun of it, and just because you're jealous! Look, poor Amanda is crying because you mocked her for getting a Valentine from me? She did not ask for the Valentine, it wasn't her fault! I will not have anything to do with such an inconsiderate person! Do not disturb me or Amanda ever again!' Having said that, Ryeowook walked over to Amanda. Taking her hand, her accompanied her to the canteen sink to wash her tear-stained face.

Amanda silently followed Ryeowook, feeling slightly embarrassed. She was touched that Ryeowook had defended her but felt a bit awkward now that they were alone. She could tell that Ryeowook also did not know how to break the awkward silence. When she finally spoke, her words were carefully chosen.

'Thank you. You know, you didn't have to do that. They're violent girls, you might have gotten hurt.' she whispered softly.

Ryeowook took out a handkerchief to dry her face as he replied caringly, 'It's okay. They were jeering at you, I couldn't just sit back and do nothing!'

'I'm used to it. This has been happening for quite some time. You don't need to worry. I don't care about them.'

'I don't care about them either! But I do care alot for you!'

'Why? I'm just your friend!'

'You're more than just a friend to me. I love you, Amanda,' Ryeowook confessed, holding her hand and gazing deeply into her eyes.

Amanda stared disbelievingly at Ryeowook for a moment before regaining her senses. 'I love you too,' she said, blushing slightly.

Ryeowook smiled before pulling her in for a sweet kiss.
