Weekend Update: Heat Wave

Jun 30, 2021 14:47

Friday and Sunday I went to Renton to see family.
Saturday I did some yardwork and a bike ride.
Monday it was crazy hot, and work was cancelled.

Friday I took the ferry and drove out to Renton, meeting B and T for dinner at Casa Durango. We ate outside, which was warm, and occasionally smokey (it was also the smoking area) but very good to be social and see people.
Saturday I skipped radio breakfast to sleep a little later, and used some of that time to mow the lawn before the day got too hot. I started the lawn on Thursday, since the forecast was clear. I did a couple other yard chores, and got a bike ride in before the heat was too bad. It was getting like Houston summer hot, up in the 90s.
Sunday I mostly took it easy, staying inside and in the shaded parts of the house. We have an AC unit for one room, so I was in there for much of the afternoon. In the second half of the day I went back out to Renton for Family Dinner. I left early, so I could be there for the zoom call, which is still a thing. Then we all had dinner in my sister's house with A/C. I got home at a reasonable hour and relaxed out on the deck, where a breeze made things nicer.
Monday work was cancelled, since temperatures were going up to 110 in places. We mostly stayed home and tried to stay cool. We did an island route for CERT, and right after we came back the substation transformer popped, and we lost power for a few hours. That meant no AC, but at least we had a shady spot to sit outside, and a few USB fans we could power from batteries.
