Well since school is over, I'm going to the UK to work in a golden retriever breeding kennel to work over the summer. This is mainly get experience and to be closer to my relatives for my Gran's big 80th birthday party in October. Also, it has been in the 90s here for close to 2 weeks and I'm sick of the heat!!
Books currently in my house:
Restoring Harmony by Joelle Anthony- About a girl in a post apocalyptic world. Only read the first chapter but already she has a brother who works in the Okanagen valley in one of the vineyards, what a small world, so is my brother! Then I see that the author lives on one of the little islands near Vancouver Island.
The devil's queen : a novel of Catherine de Medici by Jeanne Kalogridis- An autobiography about the lady in question
For the win by Cory Doctorow- Always like his books because of the technological aspect and this is no different with
MMORG gangsters and fighting for players rights.
Lord of Changing Winds by Rachel Neumeier- A wonderful book about a three way war between two nations and a host of gryphons/griffins and a young woman corrupted by griffin magic. The griffins are more fire magic than air and fled their desert home when a emperor thinks it should be his. They flee into the lush pastures of the next kingdom transforming the landscape into their own desert and bringing their war with them.
Wolfbreed by Andrew Swann- Reminds me a bit of a mix between the Graceling powers of Kristen Cashore's novels and a gruesome movie scene from Kingdom of Heaven while the characters are in Prusia. Basically its werewolves are used as assassins..or whatever people sent into walled cities to kill everyone are called, and massive Christian conversions of local people in Europe.
Dragon haven by Robin Hobb- The second book about the journeys of malformed dragons to find their ancestral home upriver. A interesting mix of characters from the haughty dragons, to their mixed keepers, and the highborn scholars.
2 Doctor Who books:
Prisoner of the Daleks by Trevor Baxendale- A headhunting gang is in search of the ultimate prey: Daleks. The 10th Doctor tries to tell them what a BAD idea that would be, but then is taken prisoner by the Daleks.
Apollo 23 by Justin Richards- The first of the 11th Doctor stories, in this one his trapped without the help of the Tardis, doing something important/exciting with the help of Amy.
James Church's Inspector O novels: About a North Korean detective who encounters political problems while trying to solve seemingly ordinary murders. A unique look into North Korean by a former CIA spy, especially the infighting between different branches of the government.
On Hold:
Tongues of Serpents by Naomi Novik-!!!!!!!!!! AUTRALIA + DRAGONS !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lightborn by Alison Sinclair - The second book this time from the Lightborn's point of view.
Chimera by Rob Thurman- A new novel about Russian mafia member who finds his long lost brother to find that his been genetically made into a killer, so not so different from his other series...
The time weaver by Shana Abe- Now the drakon shapeshifter have a time traveling dragon witch
Who fears death by Nnedi Okorafor-Mbachu- A novel about post-apocalyptic Africa but with a magical saviour
The sleeping beauty by Mercedes Lackey- Another book is Lackey's retelling of traditional fairy tales
Intrigues: book two of the Collegium Chronicles (a Valdemar novel) by Mercedes Lackey
Wizard squared by K E Mills- Third book in this series
Mockingjay (the final book of the hunger games) by Suzanne Collins- !!!I always thought of these books as a mix between Battle Royale and FF7's main city set up. You have a society separated into different districts, rich or poor, workers or scholars, sounds a lot like Midgard to me. Then you select 2 kids from each sector and make them fight each other in a crazy mind game colosseum. Where each area has a timed danger?? Collins take these ideas and then makes them awesome, plus added mind games between the players and the controllers.
Dream called time: a Stardoc novel S.L Viehl
Omnitopia dawn by Diane Duane- A near-future world about a game that develops intelligence
Land of the burning sands by Rachel Neumeier- !!! More griffins!!!
