Whelping puppies and rainy adventures

So Poppy started stage 1 of her whelping on Wednesday around 4am with heaving breathing and digging around. That led to her hiding behind the couch all day and her temperature dropping from 105 to 99. Then around 6 a'clock everything kicked off, with the whelping den set up at 5pm.

Now we have this strange thing called “Scottish Mist”, where it seems like light misty rain but if you go out in it, 20 minutes later you're soaked. This is now the 7th day of straight rain and it's funny how well the paddock recovered from such great amounts of water. All the dogs have to go onto the side paddock in the mornings but by the afternoon they can go for a romp on the grassy paddock. The dog towels get a lot of use in these days, and a change of rain jacket is required mid way through the day. Good thing my over pants are Barbour and are incredibly durable of rain, ticks and dog paws. The puppies are getting bigger day by day and learning on how to crawl rapidly away from mum, which annoys her greatly. All but 2 of the boys are already called for, some to be show dogs and others to be pets.

Tonight Gill and Bryan went to pick up Darcy from down south and perhaps mate her again before bringing her back. So some reshuffling of dogs, since stud dog Fisher is in the room where her crate is...don't want him getting all riled up. So he's coming up into the utility room and then FIR will all be girls again. I will take a picture of my little hand drawn map to make more sense of where all the 15 dogs are.

So me and Monty had some lovely breaded fish, chips and peas, with cherry pie and ice cream for desert. While eating we watched a excellent show called, “Wild Wales”, which was a bit like “Coast” but going around all the different ecosystems in Wales. I'll see if I can buy a copy to send back to my parents since I think Dad will like all the Welsh places. They had a small segment on Aberystwyth, where Monty lives, about these 20,000 starlings that all roost under the small pier.

Going to Longton on Tuesday to get my bank account sorted and do some small shopping, perhaps for some postcard and send them off to people.
