Chapter 1 Chapter 2 Kris eventually fell asleep again that night and had no more dreams. He wasn't sure if that was good or bad, but he didn't think on it too long because when he looked at the clock, he realized he had forgotten to set his alarm and he was supposed to be at the studio in fifteen minutes.
Hopping out of bed, Kris grabbed the first outfit he saw and ran to the bathroom to get a quick shower.
He managed to be in and out in five minutes, but it still took twenty minutes to get to the studio.
On his way, he got out his phone and began texting one of his band mates to let him know he was on his way. He was in the middle of the text when he heard, "STOP!"
Kris nearly jumped out of his skin, dropped his phone, gripped the wheel and slammed on the brakes. Shaking, he saw that the front of his car was only inches from the back of another.
After taking a few deep breaths, the shaking subsided a little and Kris's head cleared enough to realize that someone had told him to stop. Even though he was alone and his windows were rolled up, he heard it crystal clear. That had to mean...
Someone was in the car with him.
Letting out a frightened squeal, Kris turned and began frantically checking his backseat for an intruder. He was the only one in the car.
He began shaking violently again.
When he finally arrived at the studio, he was still shaken up.
"Are you okay?!" Cale, one of his band mates and best friends, asked as Kris entered. He nodded. "Are you sure?" his friend continued. "Because you look like you've seen a ghost."
Kris shuddered.
For obvious reasons, Kris wasn't on his best game that day, but, luckily, he did manage to relax a little as the day went on and ended the day with a little bit of progress. However, a little bit of progress wasn't enough for Kris and he was angry at himself as he drove back home that night. Maybe everyone at the hospital was right. Maybe he was crazy. After all, he did see a man that no one else seemed to notice two times and now was hearing voices.
I just need to relax, Kris thought to himself. His head hadn't hurt all day, so he decided to do what he always did when he needed to chill-go on a jog in the park.
It was late, so Kris took a flashlight, but, somehow, it failed to illuminate the hazardous tree branch...or maybe Kris just hadn't been paying attention, like usual. Either way, Kris tripped over it, fell to the ground and rolled down a little hill, hitting his head on the bottom of a tree that eventually stopped him from rolling any farther. His head exploded and stars burst in front of his eyes, but Kris knew he couldn't pass out; not in the middle of a park in the dead of night, so he blinked until the stars went away, then grabbed his flashlight. Like he was cursed or something, the flashlight died as soon as Kris touched it.
His heart pounded painfully, as did his head. He couldn't see anything, and when he tried to stand, he just collapsed back to the ground. He wanted to scream for help, but was afraid of what kind of help would arrive if he did.
Just as he was about ready to break down in terrified tears, Kris saw a light ahead of him. Hope and fear filled him at the same time as he squinted, trying to figure out if the person coming towards him looked dangerous or not.
"You are very accident prone, aren't you?" a familiar voice asked. Right then, the figure came into Kris's focus. It was mystery man. Joy leapt into Kris. He opened his mouth to ask who the guy was, but the effort sent another wave of severe pain coursing through his body and he lost consciousness.
As Kris woke to the sunlight, a dull ache in his head, he tried to remember when he went to bed the previous night. He couldn't, so he focused on remembering what he did. It took a minute, but then he remembered going on a job, falling, his flashlight dying and eventually being rescued again by the beautiful stranger.
Kris's eyes shot open. He was, indeed, in his bed.
"Damn it!" he whispered angrily to himself, hitting his fists into the mattress. He had tried so hard to stay awake and then had just given up when he saw his hero again. Now who knew when or if he would ever come back?
Aggravated, Kris threw himself out of bed to go in the kitchen and eat his feelings. However, when he entered the room, he froze. The guy was in there...cooking. Kris got lightheaded again, but gripped the counter and fought back the darkness. He would not let him get away.
"Good morning!" the man greeted in his cheery, sing-song voice.
"Who are you?" Kris finally managed to ask.
"Adam," the man replied.
"That doesn't explain it," Kris told him.
"Well, who do you think I am?" he asked.
"A stalker."
"Close enough."
A smile was tugging at the corners of his mouth as he said, "I made you waffles. Eat. Please. You need your strength."
Kris took the plate from the stranger in his house and sat at the table, thinking while he ate. How did the guy know where he lived? And why did he always manage to be there when he was in trouble? Kris knew then that it was he who had saved him from rear-ending that car the previous day. There was no denying that lovely, relaxing and still familiar voice.
After turning those thoughts over in his mind for a few minutes and coming up with no helpful answers, Kris looked up to try to get a better answer to the question he had asked verbally, but Adam was gone.
