Adam knew this road trip was going to be a bad idea. He knew that back in Vegas when Brad came up with the plan. He knew that halfway through the desert when all they could see was sand in every direction. He knew that somewhere in Oklahoma when they passed the sign for the state line and he had pointed out that their directions did not include being in the state of Oklahoma. He certainly knew that now, as they sat on the side of the road in their broken down van in God-only-knew what state, waiting for any vehicle to pass and offer them help.

Brad turned around in the passenger seat, giving Adam a half-smile. "Well?"

Adam pursed his lips. "I told you so."

"I won ten grand, bitches!" Brad was practically screaming it to whole casino and the security guards were eyeing their group carefully. Not that Adam could blame them, they were a bit of a motley crew.

Brad had suggested this trip to Vegas as a last hurrah before Adam's big adventure to Hollywood Week for Idol in a couple weeks. Going to Vegas with his ex-boyfriend was not high on Adam's to-do list but he'd never been one to turn down a free party.

"Congrats, Brad. Now bring it down a notch before we get kicked out and we need that for bail money."

Brad frowned at him. "Stop being a bitch just because you lost all your money at the blackjack table. If you're nice to me, I'll be your sugar daddy." He turned to Cassidy and his manic grin was back. "Let's go to Disney World!"

Cassidy laughed. "Disneyland is closer, babe."

Brad shrugged like facts didn't matter to him. "I don't care. I just won ten grand, let's go to fucking Disney World."

Clapping a hand on his back, Cassidy rolled his eyes and nodded. "Sure, okay. It's your money, let's check when flights leave tomorrow."

"No, let's drive!" Adam gave him a disbelieving look and Brad dismissed him with a wave of his hand. "Sugar, lighten up. I'm serious, let's rent a van and just drive to Disney World. When will we ever get to do this again? You're gonna run off and get famous and leave us behind and all we'll have is memories of this amazing trip, funded by yours truly."

Adam sighed in defeat. "This is not going to end well. Mark my words."

Brad clapped his hands and leaned up to peck Adam's cheek. "If you're right, I give you permission to say I told you so."

Brad reached back to pat Adam's knee reassuringly. "Someone will be here soon, trust me."

"That worked out so well for me last time." Adam slumped down in his seat and Cassidy laughed at them from the driver's seat.

About an hour later, they heard the hopeful sound of an approaching vehicle. Adam bolted out of the van, stopping in the middle of the road. Either the car would stop and help them or it would run him over; either way, he would be out of his misery.

Thankfully, the car slowed, pulling over behind their van. An older man got out, making his way over. "Y'all need some help?"

Adam nodded. "Yeah, I think something wrong with the engine. And none of our cell phones work here..."

"Yeah, there's no signal until you get out of these trees. And I know shit about cars," he admitted, chuckling. Sensing Adam's distress, he added, "but there's a mechanic in town. You folks want a ride?"

Adam sighed in relief, ready to hug this stranger. "Please."

"Come on," he waved them over, only raising an eyebrow when he saw Brad, in his leather pants and ripped tank top, and Cassidy, in his vest and short shorts. They piled into his car, Brad waving goodbye to their van as they drove into town.

"The mechanic says he'll have it ready to go first thing in the morning. There's a little motel in town you folks can stay at if you want."

Adam shook his hand. "Thanks so much. You're a lifesaver." He tipped his hat to the trio before getting in his car and disappearing around the corner.

"I need a drink," Brad announced. "This day has been too much adventure for me."

Adam opened up his mouth to remind Brad that this was his idea and therefore his fault they were stuck in this town - Conway, Arkansas as it turned out, wherever the fuck that was - but thought better of it and merely pointed across the street.

"Ooh, a bar!" He grabbed Cassidy's hand and dragged him across the street. Cassidy threw a look over his shoulder at Adam but he just waved them off, sinking down on a nearby bench. Too much adventure indeed.

Adam spent the better part of the next hour sitting on that bench, checking his phone and watching the people mill around the town square. He watched the sun dip down below the horizon, marveling at how quiet and peaceful this place really was. The square started to clear out until the only place with any business was the bar his friends has disappeared into earlier. Grabbing his leather jacket from the bench next to him, he slipped it on, stuffing his hands in the pockets and making his way across the street.

He meant to find Brad and Cassidy as soon as he stepped in the door. But when he let the door shut behind him, the first thing he saw was the man setting up a mic stand on the makeshift stage across the bar. He was bent over, fiddling with the cords to the amp, and Adam had a perfect view of the slope of his back to his ass. Adam started over toward him, stopping in his tracks when the guy stood up and smoothed out his plaid shirt, giving the crowd a friendly wave.

"Hey, guys, it's Kris again." His voice was soft with just the hint of an accent and Adam felt his heart speed up. The crowd chuckled good-naturedly and it made Kris's face stretch into a wide grin. Adam was pretty sure his to-do list had just been topped by the need to make Kris smile like that always. He shook his head, frowning at his instant reaction to this stranger.

Kris sat down on the lone stool on stage, turning all his attention to the guitar in his lap. Backing up, Adam took a seat at the bar, signaling the bartender to poor him whatever was on tap. He lost track of the drinks he'd finished during Kris's set but when Kris set his guitar down, ducking his head at the polite applause, he had a pleasant buzz.

Filler music took over the speakers as Kris cleaned up his equipment and Adam finished his drink, biding his time. Soon enough, Kris tucked his guitar behind the bar and took a seat a few stools away from Adam. Adam signaled the bartender again, motioning at Kris, and mumbling a little loudly, "Whatever he wants, it's on me."

Kris smiled at him, asking the bartender for a beer. "Thanks, man."

"No problem, Kris." He started at the mention of his name, but Adam gave him an easy smile. "Saw you perform. You're good."

"Thank you, uhh..."

Adam slid a few seats down until he was right next to Kris, holding out his hand. "Adam."

"Thank you, Adam," he said, shaking his hand. "You passing through?"

"You could say that. Friends and I are road-tripping to Disney World."

Kris glanced back over his shoulder. "Those your friends?" Adam followed his gaze, spotting Brad hanging all over a tall, muscular guy, Cassidy holding two drinks and watching them with an amused look on his face.

Adam felt a pang of hurt at his ex-boyfriend's antics and he shoved it down, berating himself for even caring anymore. "Yeah, that's them."

"You okay?" Kris was watching him carefully, turning on his stool to face him. Adam felt his heart skip a beat at Kris picking up on his emotions that easily.

"Uh, yeah. Long story. Don't really wanna talk about it." He swallowed the rest of his beer in one gulp, turning his body into Kris's and leaning in predatorily. "I'd much rather talk about you."

Kris laughed deep in his chest, his whole body shaking. He reached out to steady himself, his hand falling on Adam thigh, another bout of laughter bubbling up out of him. He took a few shaky breaths and calmed himself down, biting his bottom lip. "Does that line work on all the boys you pick up in bars?"

Adam frowned, a bit put off by Kris's reaction to him. "Usually," he admitted. A silence settled between them and Adam glanced down to where Kris's hand was still resting on his thigh. His eyes flicked up to Kris's, watching him carefully as he slid closer, his legs slotting between Kris's. He watched Kris's pupils expand, his tongue darting out to lick his lips.

Adam leaned closer, smirking when he felt Kris's chest rise and fall quickly, his breathing uneven. He closed his eyes and lowered his mouth to Kris's, kissing him tentatively. Kris slid his fingers up the front of Adam's jacket, tangling his fingers in the smooth leather. Adam cupped his neck roughly, deepening their kiss easily. Kris opened to him, moaning into his mouth when Adam tongue dragged across his skillfully.

Adam took the encouragement and slid a hand up his thigh, palming him through the denim. Kris scooted closer to Adam, rocking against him mindlessly. Adam moved his kisses to Kris's jawline, murmuring gently, "Slow down, baby."

Kris shook his head. "We need to go somewhere else," he whispered roughly, his teeth nipping at Adam's ear.

Adam didn't need to be told twice. He pulled back from Kris long enough to glance around the bar, spotting a darkened hallway just on the other side of the bar. He grabbed Kris's hand and dragged him away from the crowd.

Kris let Adam manhandle him down the hallway and into the bathroom, stumbling into the far stall. Adam dropped to his knees instantly, his hands working at the zipper on Kris's jeans easily. Tugging them down, Adam slipped one hand inside his boxers, curling his fingers around his half-hard dick. His other hand snaked under Kris's shirt, gripping tightly on his hip.

Kris gasped out loudly, the sound melting into a low moan as Adam slid his tongue along the underside of Kris's cock. Stroking lazily a few times, he stretched his lips around Kris, swallowing him down slowly. Kris was whimpering above him, reaching down to thread his fingers through Adam's messy hair and tugging roughly. Adam groaned around Kris's cock, speeding up his mouth and hand, every motion turning desperate and messy.

Kris was already shaking and Adam knew he was close. "Adam," he panted, begging. Adam tightened his fingers on Kris's hip, sure he was going to leave bruises. He wanted Kris to remember this, to remember him.

Kris's release was sudden. His whole body shuddered with it, desperate whines escaping his lips. Adam swallowed hungrily, sucking him through it until Kris shoved him off half-heartedly, tugging him off the floor.

Adam stood back up, smiling smugly when he saw Kris, faint bruises on his neck from Adam's hands, lips swollen and used, hair messy beyond repair. He wrapped his arms around Adam's waist, pulling him impossibly close and whispering senselessly in his ear. Adam shifted a bit, his pants uncomfortably tight, and soothed Kris, petting his hair and nosing above his ear.

The door flung open noisily and Kris tensed under him. "Adam, where the fuck are you?" Brad's voice was a bit slurred and panicked.

Adam groaned, resting his forehead on Kris's shoulder. "Brad, shut up. I'll be out in a minute."

"Hurry up, Cassidy is just about passed out outside."

"Fine. I'll be out soon." The door slammed shut and Adam sighed. "I have to go."

Kris looked up at him through half-lidded eyes. "Your friend seems a little... high-maintanance."

Adam chuckled humorlessly. "You have no idea." He pressed another sloppy kiss to Kris's bruised mouth, breaking away reluctantly. "I really have to go..."

"If you ever find yourself back in Conway..." Kris let his statement trail off.

"God, I hope not," Adam muttered, laughing. He caught a flash of worry in Kris's eye and he gave him a warm smile. "But we should try this again on my grounds. So if you're ever in LA..."

"I'll find you," Kris promised.

"I'll hold you to that." He felt Kris shudder under him at the implications and he took a step back, knowing that one more kiss would turn into much more. "Goodbye, Kris."

He slipped out of the stall, letting the door close again behind him. Kris heard him hurry out of the bathroom and a sort-of-smile settled on his lips. "Bye, Adam..."

End.
