Summary: It was sort of an accident.
Disclaimer: Kris and Adam do not belong to me. They belong to themselves and possibly even each other. jkjk. This never happened. Or maybe it did and we just don't know. Song used is Brighter Than Sunshine by Aqualung. This isn't exactly a songfic though.
He’s in the balcony with his hands on the balustrade and he’s looking at beautiful LA in the morning. Cars are everywhere; they look like animated dots, they look like ants just scuttling along, just zigzagging to no place in particular, just wanting to get away - and they do because they disappear suddenly sometimes and it leaves Kris feeling alone. Now Kris doesn't want to watch cars anymore so he looks at the buildings but they don’t move and staring at them gets boring so Kris doesn’t feel like watching buildings anymore.
And then - it was sort of an accident - Kris's gaze drop to his hands. His hands on the balustrade. And then he sees liquid gold splashing onto his fingers. He sees sunlight dancing on the back of his hands. He raises his right hand to his eyes and he looks at the golden diamond flecks that have embedded themselves on his skin and he thinks he radiates sunbeams. And then the sunlight and the yellow are everywhere.
And then there are arms around his waist and Kris knows who it is. He can tell by the soap-and-product-and-cologne scent now wafting into his nostrils. He can tell by the steady rise-and-fall of the chest he can now feel on his back. He can tell because he knows those arms and he can tell it’s Adam because Kris didn’t feel like any lines were being crossed.
Kris feels safe.
And now Adam is singing that song he's been humming a lot lately, that song that Kris noticed Adam never sang with lyrics, that song that always made Kris mutter, “Adam, shut up” because he was getting sick of hearing the same melody without words.
And this time, Kris allows Adam to keep humming and Kris allows himself to listen and Kris allows himself to be wrapped in Adam’s arms and Kris allows himself to enjoy the moment and be completely Adam's just for now because this feels inevitable. Because this moment feels like it’s been waiting to happen. Kris’s waist has been waiting for Adam’s arms and Kris’s ears have been waiting for Adam’s voice to finally sing the words to that song.
And then Adam does.
Let the rain fall, I don’t care,
And Kris turns around, and Adam’s hands stay on his waist, and Kris can’t do anything but stare, and Adam continues singing -
I'm yours and suddenly you're mine,
Suddenly you're mine,
- and Kris cups Adam’s face -
And it's brighter than sunshine.
And then - it was sort of an accident - Kris's gaze drop to his hands. His hands that are no longer on the balustrade but on Adam's face. And he can still see the sunlight on his skin. And then, just as accidentally, Kris glances at Adam and sees the sunlight in his eyes, too, but it’s far more stunning and perfect than the yellow twinkle on the tips of Kris's fingers. And now his sunlight-hands, his golden prism-palms aren’t as beautiful anymore - they’re dull now, even - and LA in the morning and all the cars and all the buildings reflecting the sunbeams look lifeless and lackluster, and Kris smiles because he found something in Adam's eyes; because Kris is finding now, in the moment he's allowing himself to be Adam's, that this is - that Adam is brighter, and far better, than sunshine.
