The Proposal 1 / 10

Aug 04, 2009 20:04

Ah, Kradam. The lovely boys again. Not mine obviously - only each others. Mostly written from Adam's POV except for one part in Kris' POV because it had to roll like that. Also includes some Brad/ Adam and Brad/ Kris friendship stuff in the middle (that guy is cute to write).

This is a ten part fic and I have it all written up already, but need to still post in parts due to the fact its too long otherwise. Anyway the suspense is better that way! But at least you will get updates very quickly. The story mostly centres around the LA show in response to requests from my Glittery friends over at Gossip Candy, but then moves on to the end of the tour because thats the way the muse took it.

Rating: definitely NC 17 overall (especially part 7) although the earlier parts are probably PG 13 to R.

Warning: Matt stans should note that he is not protrayed at all sympathetically in this fic. Sorry but it just worked out that way. Therefore read at your own peril.

The Proposal
Part 1

So. Its like that is it? Adam thought to himself, pursing his lips in secret amusement. He had heard all about Matt's 'proposal' to Kris from a breathless Ali. The flowers, the going down on one knee in front of all the fangirls. Kris' embarrassed response, trying to make a joke of it. Katy's lame attempt to push the Kratt shipping. Jesus, Adam thought with a slow wicked grin, if you're gonna ship a couple at least don't choose a name that sounds like a cross between 'crap' and 'shit'. Poor Matt. He was desperate for attention wasn't he? And probably more than a little jealous of all the fan love he and Kris got Adam thought, even if he couldn't admit it to himself. But Adam understood that. He knew how insecure Matt was, how much he desperately wanted to be a success, and he held no grudge.

Not a lot I can do about that right now anyway he mused. Not with Katy here and all. In fact he needed to make himself scarce all round tonight. Don't want to cramp the wife's style. She gets cranky enough having to share her husband with me at the best of times. Well at least the sharing is only in public anyway he smiled. But it would be better to give her some space tonight. Let her do her cute little Tinkerbell thing. And let Matt have his five minutes of fame on twitter. Hmm, but just wait 'til we get to LA . Wait 'til we get on my home ground.

The hot dry summer heat of LA hit him like a physical force, the air thrumming as Adam walked out of the airport terminal and breathed the familiar smell deep into his lungs. They were performing at the Staples Centre tonight and Adam could barely believe it. In front of his home crowd! In front of all his old friends! Just wow! He had never thought things would move so fast. He had always known that he had a shot at being in the top 10 and going on tour. Well once he got over the near death experience caused by those pictures of him and Brad coming out anyway. He thanked the universe every night for delivering him from that nightmare. But to be so appreciated. He just hadn't thought it would get this big, and so soon. It was crazy. Like every night he went on stage he almost expected that this would be the gig when the audience didn't want to know him. But they loved him. They loved the hip thrusts and the mic sex and the snarls. Everyone knew it was an act and they still loved it because they knew he was doing it all for them.

And Utah had been strange. And Dallas? The crowd had loved him in the South! WTF? He had thought that he would at least have gotten a few cat calls, or some deranged redneck would try to accost him in the meet and greet after the show. But the roar from the crowd had been the same as always, even though he had toned it down slightly, even though he had almost been performing in the dark, he remembered gleefully.

AI were becoming more than a little nervous that his act was not really 'family' orientated enough. They had really gone overboard with the dry ice recently, nearly choking poor Ali to death during Slow Ride. And spotlights above the waist only. And no Robotron shots below the waist. It was all good though. He knew they had to at least maintain some semblance of 'family values'. Plus this was fantastic experience for him. He was storing everything up, taking mental notes of what worked and what didn't. Ready for when he was released, set free to be as dangerous as he liked. But AI wasn't going ask him change his performance style, not one bit. They knew what the audience had come to see and it was all business, all cash in the bank to them. He was sure as hell that the audience didn't want him to change it either. But tonight he was on home turf. LA bitches. and he was gonna make the most of it.

Sitting in make-up later that afternoon he felt more than saw Kris come into the room. Funny how he always knew when Kris was around. Like he had a sixth sense for him or something. Kris walked round the chair to stand in front of him and smiled that sweet shy smile of his, eyes glancing up slow and then flicking away again, not wanting to show too much with all the backstage crew around. Adam felt his pulse jump in his throat at the sight of Kris so near. Kris always showed too much on his face, Adam thought. That would never get old.

'Hey baby' Adam murmured softly, wanting to reach out and touch, but not able to move right now as the girl was doing something crucial with an iridescent blue shadow around his eyes.

'Hey you' Kris responded, his voice low and sexy, the tone he only used with Adam, eyes gazing up now to drink in Adam's face.

'Looking good there...' he murmured with that sideways smile that creased into his eyes '...as usual'.

Adam smiled back. Smiled his small quiet, 'so proud of you baby' smile, the one he reserved just for Kris. Because Adam was proud of him, proud of everything single thing about him, and especially proud of the fact that Kris was all his. Kris blushed slightly and turned to step away to his own chair and await his turn for the make up routine that only took him ten minutes to Adam's hour. God, how he loved this man Adam thought with a rush, that he could blush at just a smile. As Kris turned to go he surreptitiously brushed the back of his hand over Adam's bare forearm. Adam shivered slightly and saw the corner of Kris' mouth turn up in acknowledgement at the reaction. Adam could never hide anything from Kris. He was the only person who had ever been able to make Adam blush in public. Adam loved that. Loved giving him the power to do that. Knew it made Kris feel special, feel his love. And Kris could never hide anything from Adam. There were so many unspoken looks and gestures and touches between them that sometimes it felt to Adam that they could read each others thoughts. They had a whole secret language that no one else understood and few others even noticed.

Adam leaned back in the chair and relaxed, indulged in a little reminiscing. He still had about fifteen minutes he figured, more than enough time to cast his mind back over all his favourite memories of his time on Idol with his friends, with Kris. Fifteen minutes. He had come to realise you could do a lot in fifteen minutes. If only he had known how hectic it would get. Nothing could have really prepare him for a multi state tour and recording an album at the same time. It wouldn't have made any difference though. He wouldn't have done anything differently. Way back on Idol it had seemed to all of them that they had no time, were constantly on the go, rushing from rehearsals to photo shoots to performances. Now in retrospect it all seemed so relaxed, so leisurely. They'd had time to swim, to shop, to cook, to watch TV, to joke and laugh together. Time to fall in love.
