Part 10
Kradam. Ah the lovely boys again. Not mine obviously, only each others.
OK its the end of the story now and we are nearing the end of the tour when things start to get real for our boys. I am posting the last two parts today so I hope you have all enjoyed reading this as much as I have writing it. Thanks for all the great comments so far. Remember feedback is love!
This is a ten part fic mostly from Adam's POV and I have it all written up already, but need to still post in parts due to the fact its too long otherwise. The story mostly centres around the LA show in response to requests from my glittery friends, but then moves on to the end of the tour because thats the way the muse took it.
Rating: definitely NC 17 overall for both sex and language.
Warning: Matt stans should note that he is not protrayed sympathetically in this fic. Sorry but I needed a villain and it just worked out that way. Also I have no Beta so please don't bite me if you spot some small mistakes!

Part 10
It was the penultimate day of the tour and all the Idols were struggling to get through their 8am briefing about the end of tour press conference scheduled for the last day. Adam scanned the room at the tired worn faces of his friends, clutching coffees, still chewing on their breakfast. No one really wanted the tour to end, he knew that, but they all desperately needed to rest. Everyone was listless, exhausted. His own voice had been giving him cause for concern for weeks now, and he had had to make some hasty changes to his arrangements with the band and drop almost all the glory notes from his set just to be able to make it through.
Adam had finally decided to call his brother the day before to tell him what had happened with Matt. He hadn't been sure how Neil was going to react but he needed someone safe to talk to, someone who knew about his situation, someone who wasn't Kris. After listening to two minutes worth of expletives spewing down the line Adam had almost hung up, until Neil had suddenly calmed down and started talking through some options off the top of his head.
It was nothing that Adam hadn't thought of already and discounted; like speaking to the management definitely not! going public to beat Matt to it too complicated! this isn't just about me is it? hiring a lawyer yes definitely, as soon as the tour finished, or simply just knocking Matt's block off very tempting indeed! Even though they hadn't come up with any real solutions it had helped just to get things off his chest. Adam had told Neil about Kris talking to Katy and at least Neil had thought that was a good idea.
What Adam hadn't told Neil was that he wasn't really happy with the way Kris seemed to be on the phone to Katy almost constantly these last few days. Or the way Kris had just smiled when Adam had asked what she had said, or how she was taking it.
'It's OK Adam, she's not mad' or 'She's trying to figure something out' was all Kris had added.
He knew he shouldn't be jealous of Kris talking to his own wife for god's sakes! Adam knew she had started seeing someone else herself soon after she and Kris had split up, but somehow Adam wasn't reassured by the enigmatic way Kris brushed off his questions. Maybe he was just being paranoid but it had almost seemed that Kris had been avoiding him this past week, coming to his room later than usual when they had tour stops after Adam was already asleep, saying he had things to sort out during the day so they couldn't hang out together as much, staying in his bunk with his laptop instead of bringing it over to sit with Adam on the long couch at the back of the bus when they were on the road. It was obvious Kris was planning something and Adam couldn't help feeling disappointed that he wouldn't confide in him.
Kris had seemed happier too these last few days than he had at any time since the photo incident. Although Adam knew he should be glad of that, for some reason that had just made him even more despondent. How could Kris be so happy? Bit by bit thoughts had started to worm their way into his brain whenever he had a quiet moment alone. What if Kris was coming up with some cover story that involved him and Katy staying together publicly? All that 'stand by your man' shit? That would definitely mean a lot more time spent with Katy and a lot less time with them together. Maybe the thought of those photos coming out had scared Kris too much? No, no that's stupid. Kris wouldn't keep something like that from him. Stop it Adam! You've been here before remember? You know you can trust Kris.
If only Kris would talk to him properly, instead of just smiling and saying everything was going to be fine then sauntering off to make another phone call. Kris seemed so confident recently and that somehow made Adam only worry more.
'Oh God,' he moaned inwardly 'What the fuck's happening to me?' He knew exactly what had happened to him all right. Kris fucking Allen had happened to him. Got under his skin and into his heart until Adam couldn't even remember what it had felt like before Kris was in his life. Kris was his spark, the reason he woke up every morning feeling alive and ready to face the world. The looks Kris gave him, those beautiful dazzling looks, like he was drinking in his energy and radiating it back to him again. A reverberation across time.
Adam challenged anyone to receive a look like that and not be moved to their core. Kris was the quiet voice in his soul, the yearning ache in his throat when he felt he couldn't go on any more, the joyous lift in his heart.
Everyone thought Adam was the strong one and yes, he was strong, but he was also fiery. Kris was like the constellations. He would go on with the same soft glowing energy, day after night, always loving him, always there with him no matter where he was physically in the world. Adam could never give that up. He decided that he would go along with whatever plan Kris came up with. Had to. Kris had to come first.
Adam was fine on stage. He could always pull a performance out of the bag, put on the persona, that was his training. And the rush from the audience pushed everything else out of his mind for those brief moments when he was giving his all to them. Once off stage Adam had realised just how much time he and Kris actually spent together now that Kris wasn't constantly by his side. Again this morning Kris wasn't sat next to him in the briefing he thought a touch forlornly, but then Adam felt over to where Kris was in the room. Fed off his energy. Felt better just knowing he was around. Glancing over to watch Kris fiddle with his cell again, texting some message out while his eyes flicked up every now and then to take in what the handler was saying, tongue pushed forward in concentration, Adam felt himself relax. He knew he could trust Kris to the core of his being.
The handler's voice droned on and Adam closed his eyes against the fatigue pressing in on him. Opening them he caught sight of Matt sitting across from him, a rather unpleasant grin smeared across his face. Adam glared back in defiance until Matt looked away nervously. Yeah, you should be nervous of me Matty, he thought darkly. He had seen Matt on his laptop a lot recently and knew he was up to something.
Everyone started to scrape and shuffle their chairs back and Adam suddenly realised the briefing was over. He caught the feel of Matt's stare on him again from the corner of his eye and looked up to see him playing with something small and dark in his fingers. He recognised it immediately. It was a digital memory card.
Matt was lolling against the doorway and he looked like maybe he was waiting for him. Adam grimaced inwardly at the thought. If that was the case Matt would get more than he bargained for. Adam was at the back of the line as they filed slowly out the door and Kris was near the front. But as Kris passed by Matt suddenly threw his arm around Kris' shoulders and muttered something close into his ear, waggling the small black plastic object in front of Kris' face.
Suddenly there was a blur of arms and bodies and before Adam could even react he saw Matt fall heavily to the ground clutching his face, a look of total shock in his round eyes. He rushed forward trying to shove past the chairs to the others gathering round the pair as gasps and cries came from the girls, hands flying up to cover mouths.
Adam pushed though to find Kris standing over Matt, shaking with anger, fists flexed so tight the veins on his forearms stood out popping against his tan skin. Matt was scrambling to stand now, still with the same look of disbelief, blood dripping from his nose and mouth through his fingers. Megan and Danny both rushed to help Matt stagger up, looking incredulously between him and Kris' dark clenched face. Suddenly released from the spot he was rooted to Adam felt himself jerk instinctively towards Kris. He quickly put his hands on Kris' shoulders to turn and drag his stiff body reluctantly away from Matt.
'Kris, Kris, what the hell...?' Adam tried to bring him round from his rage as he steered him down the corridor and way from the scene behind them.
'No, no harm done, just a disagreement, that's all...' he heard Matt splutter behind them. Then louder, 'Don't worry, I'm not gonna sue you Kris. Ha Ha.' He felt Kris stiffen again under his grip as though he was about to turn round and go back but Adam shoved his chest against Kris' back, using his height and weight to keep Kris propelling forward.
'That asshole!' was all Kris could force out between clenched teeth. 'That fucking asshole!'
Kris hadn't wanted to talk about it, so Adam hadn't pushed him. He didn't need to. He knew what it was about. Now he was lying on his bed listening to the soft sounds from his ipod, sooty lashes brushing his cheeks as he struggled to stay awake, waiting for Kris to come through the door with his spare pass key. They always slept in Adam's room now. Ever since they had stayed up all night screwing in LA and then had to go to the the Ford dealership thing the next day to pick up their cars in rumpled clothes on less than two hours sleep.
They woke so late that Adam hadn't had time to sneak back to his room for his make up or a change of clothes and they had ended up doing the walk of shame on a televised presentation. Adam giggled softly at the memory of that, of them both in shades and him wearing a stupid cap pulled down over his untamed bed head. Even Kris who only needed a tight T shirt and some hair gel to look amazing had looked totally fucked that morning. That's because he had been! Adam snorted to himself amused, suddenly laughing out loud.
'Having a good time in here all by yourself are you Adam?' Kris' chuckled low as he let himself in through the door.
'Just some funny memories Krissifer' Adam grinned back up at him, making a funny face to go with his silly voice, secretly pleased that Kris was back before he had fallen asleep again.
'Its good to hear you laugh honey' Kris murmured as he walked over to plant a kiss on Adam's lips.
Adam sighed against Kris' mouth, pulling him down on top of him to wrap his long arms around his back. 'I need to ask you what's going on Kris' he said soft and serious, crystal blue eyes gazing up into liquid brown.
'There's nothing going on Adam. Lets just make the most of tonight shall we?' Kris whispered back. 'It's the last night we have alone before the final gig. And Katy's coming tomorrow remember?' he added looking directly into Adam's eyes.
Adam shifted slightly and turned his gaze away. He knew the plan had always been for Katy to be at the final performance but her presence still made him uncomfortable when she always seemed to stay on the other side of the room from him, eyeing him warily.
'Yeah, I know. I suppose you're right' Adam murmured downcast, still not looking at Kris. 'We might not be together again for a while after tomorrow'.
'Adam, we will always be together' Kris replied firmly. 'I promise.'
Adam wanted to believe him but his heart felt heavy. A dull ache started to spread through his chest. 'Stop it Adam' Kris admonished gently, shifting his weight over Adam's body comfortably. 'My promise should be good enough for you so stop your worrying OK?' he lilted back in his soft Southern drawl.
Kris placed his fingers along Adam's jaw and gently moved his face so Adam's eyes were back within his warm gaze. 'Now come on beautiful, kiss me. You know you want to.' Kris smiled his sweet crooked smile, pushing his hips teasingly against Adam's groin. Adam leaned up to catch his lips in a slow gentle kiss, wet and sweet, running his hands down around Kris' hard frame, feeling the muscles twitch under his shirt.
'You know you were so freaking hot today defending my honour Kristopher Allen' Adam finally sighed back, his voice coming out burred and uneven as he kissed against Kris' open mouth. 'So...seeing as you're acting all toppy lately baby...' he ran one finger languidly down Kris' spine and back up again for effect '...Maybe I should let you fuck me tonight... Hmm?'
Adam spoke soft and teasing with a glint in his eyes, biting against his lip and rocking upwards into Kris with a low purring hum. He felt Kris harden and buck against him, watched as that pleased smile of his spread slowly across Kris' boyish face. He knew Kris didn't need any more encouragement than that.
They were gathered in the biggest conference room the complex in Manchester had. Nine Idols lined up seated along one long table, the banner backdrops hanging behind them, microphones and jugs of water neatly arranged in front. The conference was due to start promptly at 2pm and at five to, Kris still wasn't here. Adam glanced nervously at the empty chair to his right that Kris had asked him to save when he rushed past him earlier shouting over his shoulder that he might be late.
'I have to go pick up Katy from the airport' he grinned and was gone before Adam could yell anything back in reply.
The room was packed with reporters and photographers, jostling and shifting in their seats while they waited for the briefing to start. The odd flash went off as someone got in an early shot while the other Idols chatted quietly to each other along the table. There's got to be about two hundred press outlets here Adam thought to himself. There were also several local TV stations set up around the room in addition to the Fox News cameras he noticed, quietly impressed.
With a minute to spare Kris slipped quietly into the seat beside Adam almost startling him. 'Where have you been Kris?' hissed Adam in his ear. 'I was beginning to think they were gonna start without you.'
'What? Start without the American Idol? I don't think so' Kris teased back.
Adam looked at him carefully. Kris was jiggling his leg furiously under the table like he did when he got excited about something. Then he flashed his quick nervous grin and squeezed Adam's thigh tightly. Something was up. Adam was starting to get that uneasy feeling again. He was about to open his mouth to ask what was going on when the tour manager spoke up.
'Right, thanks for coming today everyone, lets get this thing rolling. First we'll have some general questions which we're gonna spread around for all the Idols to answer, then we have a few minutes at the end for questions to specific Idols. OK? Now, can I have the first question from the press please?'
A barrage of voices started barking and the manager pointed to the nearest hand in the sea of reporters. The first was a cute blond woman seated in the front row who stared at Adam pointedly the whole time she asked her question about who had recording contracts and who was in negotiations. Adam noticed the looks but just smiled back sweetly while deferring to Kris then Allison before joining in with Danny and Scott. The questions rolled on and Adam sat back, letting the others speak first as he usually did, only joining in when something touched on him specifically. These things were always the same he thought. The questions were always the same....
The tour manager's voice broke through Adam's thoughts. 'OK now we've just got time for a couple of questions to Kris Allen and Adam Lambert the AI 2008 series winner and runner up.'
Shit, he didn't remember this was happening Adam thought hurriedly. He caught Kris grinning at him; 'Should have been paying attention in the briefing yesterday honey' Kris leaned over to whisper quickly under his breath.
'Yeah thanks. Er, Sun Times here. This is for both Kris and Adam. Er, what do you think the future holds for you both now you won't be together all the time on the tour. Are you going to miss each other?'
Adam groaned inwardly - not another one of those questions. He plastered on his show smile and glanced across at Kris to indicate he was going to take this one. Before he could open his mouth Kris was already speaking next to him.
'No, we won't miss each other because we will be living together in LA' Kris answered smoothly in his low drawl.
Adam froze. Kris had moved his hand to place it over Adam's on top of the table, giving it a gentle squeeze. The emphasis was unmistakable. What was Kris doing? Adam looked down at their two hands joined together on the table in front of him and then slowly raised his eyes to Kris' face. Kris was looking at him with the same adoring gaze he often had when they were alone or performing on stage. But they weren't on stage now. Or alone. In fact there were about three hundred people in the room who had just emitted a collective gasp as cameras started popping and flashing furiously in their faces.
Kris tore his gaze away from Adam's and faced the room again with a huge smile 'My wife and I are separated and Adam and I are moving in together' he continued, squeezing Adam's hand even tighter. 'Because we love each other.'
Adam's shock was broken only by Alison's squeals and Megan's delighted claps as he turned round in a daze to watch Katy walk calmly from the side of the room to pass behind him and stand next to Kris.
She placed a hand on Kris' shoulder as he beamed back up at her before saying in her soft Southern voice, 'Kris and I have grown apart this last year but we remain friends. Its a mutual thing. We have both found someone else. And I am very happy for him and Adam' she added, finally looking over to Adam with a quiet smile.
Adam felt like he was moving slowly, languidly, underwater. He could hear the yells of the press and the delighted shouts of his friends as though from a distance through the bright fog of popping flash bulbs. He could see the shocked looks on Danny and Michael's faces and take in the joyous smiles of the girls and Anoop as they clamoured to hug and kiss him and Kris. He watched as Matt shoved his chair back roughly and stormed out of the room pushing angrily past Scott at the end of the table. He turned to look at Kris beaming back at him, pulling him in to place a small shy kiss on his cheek.
Adam only realised that he was crying when he saw the tears plop down on the table below, spreading small dark circles in the white cloth.
Epilogue
Adam and Kris were crouched down low on the lift bed under the stage for the final time. It was the final number of the final night of the fifty state Idol tour and everything couldn't be more different.
The press had gone wild. Immediately the briefing had finished TV stations and media outlets around the world had video footage and pictures of Adam and Kris holding hands. Headlines announcing their love for each other were splashed across every network and news stand.
Katy had been as tough as Kris said she was, the lawyers she hired smoothing things over with both their management companies, and issuing an immediate injunction against any 'unauthorized' pictures. She wasn't going to be out done by some petty blackmailer she had told Adam matter of factly. Kris had even called both sets of parents to warn them of what was coming in advance. Adam knew what a huge deal it was for Kris to tell his parents.
Adam gazed admiringly across at Kris grinning insanely back at him as he reached out the few inches to clasp Kris' hand tightly in the dark. Adam couldn't remember loving anyone more than this.
'Ready for this baby?' he yelled through the deafening din of the crowd above, a huge gleaming smile spread across his face.
'Always' came back Kris' shouted laughing response. 'As long as you don't let go.'
'Don't worry. I won't. Ever.'
The lift started to rise and the ecstatic noise from the cheering mass of twenty thousand people was almost unbearable. They emerged singing their lines hand in hand, smiles wide as a mile, as the lift rose to fully place them on the level stage.
Adam knew that things would never be the same again. He had never been happier in his life.
The End
