“Adam,” Kris said, breathlessly, “please kiss me.”
Adam placed both of his hands on either side of Kris’ face and cupped it like a holy chalice he was about to drink from. He gently titled Kris’ face up toward him and slowly brought his mouth down over Kris’, tenderly, chastely, lovingly. He broke away from his mouth and placed kisses on his cheeks, forehead, eyes, chin, down the length of his neck and back up again before meeting his lips once again. This time he teased Kris’ mouth with his tongue and made soft contact with Kris’. The kiss was curious; it was both prurient and pure, and Kris felt his heart melting as well as his libido awakening. He threw his arms around Adam’s neck and pressed himself into him, his body well-remembering the distance and spaces between them, and just how to move to fit them. Adam continued to love him with his mouth on every surface he could easily reach, then brought both of his hands to his mouth for loving, as well. Kris heard his soft chuckle.
“What’s this?” Adam asked, holding up Kris’ thumb.
“I’m carrying around a piece of you. Remember?”
Adam held up his hand to reveal one plain fingernail on his thumb. “Oh, I remember. I’ve been carrying around a piece of you since you left. I could never make myself paint this nail. Oh, Kris, god, I’ve missed you.”
Adam wrapped Kris in one of his all-encompassing, full body hugs that Kris loved so much and he finally, finally let go and accepted the truth that he deserved Adam’s love and that he’d never have to spend another day missing Adam again.
**
The reunited lovers stretched lazily across Kris’ bed. They’d been talking for nearly four hours, in each other’s arms, not letting go for a second. Sometimes they laughed playfully, sometimes they wept bitterly, but always they touched. Adam was almost afraid that Kris would float away if he were to let him go. His mind was having a small difficulty grasping the idea that Kris was back for good. He had some anxiety about losing Kris again, but Kris had taught him how to truly love, and that meant never being afraid. Kris had shown him that love was as simple as making a choice - you chose love and then you gave it every day and you never took it for granted. Adam could hurt himself doing a lot of things, but that didn’t stop him from doing them. He could get hurt or killed just walking out the door every day, but that didn’t mean he never left the house. So why should he not love just because he might get hurt again? The point was to focus on the rewards, not the risks. Embrace life and love, not fear them. Kris would eventually forgive himself and heal from his shame; he’d revealed that he’d been working with a therapist the whole time he was back in Arkansas. He also said he planned on continuing therapy in LA. Kris didn’t need Adam to rescue him, he was handling himself just fine. All he wanted, all he’d ever wanted, was Adam’s love. And Adam planned on giving him that for the rest of his life.
Adam curved his body like a parentheses along the outside edge of the bed and faced Kris on the opposite side. He pulled Kris’ head to his own with his hand braced on the back of Kris’ neck. Kris reached up and wrapped his hand around Adam’s wrist, and they gazed at each other as their noses softly brushed. Adam kissed Kris softly and wrapped his long legs around him and spoke Kris’ own words of over a year ago back to him.
“Kris Allen, I love you. I have loved you every day that I’ve known you. I loved you before I knew you. You are who I’ve been waiting for. I will love you forever. Say you’ll never leave again.”
“Never, Adam. My heart might stop beating, but that wouldn’t be enough to keep me from loving you.”
They shared a long, slow, deliberant kiss. When Kris went to push it farther, Adam kept the pace where it was. Kris was in for a long, slow seduction that night. After everything they’d been through, Adam fully believed they deserved to wring every drop of pleasure out of their time together - not only for that night, but for all of the nights to come. And he had no doubt, there were going to be many, many more to come.
After they had completely satiated their bodies, Adam curled himself around Kris as they both slid comfortably into sleep.
That night he dreamed of a wedding.
