The next few days consisted of a pattern - Adam and Kris would meet Alli at the studio for lessons, then they would break for lunch. They would eat with the rest of the dancers, then hurry back to rehearse for the rest of the afternoon. Kris would rush back to his cabin, take a shower and change, just making it to dinner on time. Louise would give him the evil eye across the table while Kris ignored her. After dinner, he would make his way to the Club House and dance for a couple of hours. He danced mostly with Adam, but he also danced with Alli, Terrance, Taylor, Megan and Lil, among others. Terrance and Taylor were a couple, and Megan was with Tony. But no one really cared who they danced with, they were just having fun, being young and a little wild.
After the dancing, Kris would go back to Adam’s cabin and they would make love, then fall asleep next to each other.
Then, one evening after dinner, as Kris was getting ready to run out the dining room door, his father stopped him. “Kris, where have you been keeping yourself? You haven’t shown up for breakfast or lunch for over a week. You rush in for dinner, then rush right back out. What’s going on? You’re not getting into any trouble are you? And why is Louise suddenly so mad at you?”
Kris laughed. “I haven’t been getting into any trouble, Dad. I’ve made friends with a lot of the dancers and I’ve been hanging out with them. There really isn’t a whole lot for me to do with the other guests. Everything is set up basically for kids and adults. I don’t really fit in to either group. The dancers are a lot of fun and they’ve really welcomed me into their group. I’ve been having a blast.
“Louise has her nose out of joint because she was flirting with me and I shot her down. I’m heading to the Club House because the dancers have a party there every night.”
“Kris, I know that there isn’t a whole lot for you to do here at your age, but I’m not sure it’s a good idea for you to get mixed up with the dancers. They come from a very different background than you do. They know things and have done things that you haven’t experienced yet. I don’t want you getting exposed to that sort of thing before you’re ready. When you get to college, you can start sowing your wild oats.”
“Dad, you’re wrong about the dancers, Well, yeah, most of them have experienced a lot more than I have, but that doesn’t bother them and they don’t pressure me to do anything I’m not comfortable with. I’m just learning to dance and making friends. Seriously, Dad, this is the best summer I’ve ever had here at Grossinger's.”
“Ok, Kristopher, I trust your judgment. I’m having a hard time dealing with the fact that you’re actually an adult now. As far as I’m concerned, you’re still the little boy I taught to ride a bike and that I took to his first major league baseball game. Don’t grow up too fast. You’ll get there eventually without rushing things.”
Kris gave his dad a hug and said, “I won’t. I promise. I also promise to spend more time with you and Mom after Saturday night.”
“What’s so special about Saturday night?”
Shit! Kris could have kicked himself. Now he had to explain everything to his father and hope he didn’t forbid Kris from dancing in the Show. He quickly told his father what had happened to Brad and that, since he was learning their dances anyway, they asked him to fill in as a dancer in the chorus line. Nothing big, just to even out the line, so it wasn’t lopsided. Really, no big deal. Kris’ father frowned, then, to Kris’ surprise, he laughed. “Oh, Kris, that’s great. I’m glad you can help them out. I’ll be proud to watch you dance on stage for the Show.
“By the way, I know that a lot of male dancers are, well, homosexuals. Have you met any?” Kris’ dad threw that in there so casually, he almost caught Kris off guard again.
“Um, yeah, Dad, a couple of the guys are gay. Terrance and Taylor are a couple, even. There are one or two more, too.”
“Any one catch your eye?” Kris rolled his eyes. He didn’t know if his dad was trying to warn him off getting involved with a dancer or if he was just curious..
“I’m friends with all the dancers, Dad. I really gotta go now. I’m late for the party.” He quickly darted around the corner and headed for the Club House.
**********
Adam was pacing around by the door, sipping a beer. “There you are! I thought something might have happened to you.” He pulled Kris close for a hug and a kiss.
“Yeah, my dad happened. He gave me the third degree about where I’ve been spending my time. I told him the truth, then accidentally slipped and told him about dancing in the Show. He wanted to know if I’d ‘met’ anyone, but I brushed him off and here I am finally.”
“You don’t want your family to know about me? Are you ashamed of me? I know I’m not a fancy, rich guy like you and your family, but I’m not white trash, either. Are you just slumming with us? Do you really care about me or are you just using me for sex? God, Kris. I thought we were a couple. I let myself care for you. I haven’t done that in a long, long time. Now I find out it’s all just a game to you.” Adam flung his beer bottle as far as he could, hearing it smash on a rock in the darkness. “Forget about the Show. We’ll get along fine without you. We really aren’t here just for your amusement. We’re real people with real feelings. You should go back to your safe, normal cocoon and stay away from me.” Adam’s voice broke on the last sentence as he turned and fled around the corner of the building.
Kris stood frozen in place from shock. He had never imagined how it would hurt Adam when he didn’t tell his father that he had, indeed, met someone. After a few seconds, Kris came to life and sprinted after Adam. He knew where he was going. He just hoped Adam would let him in so he could apologize and explain himself.,
**********
Kris knocked on the door to Adam’s cabin. He could see the light was on, so he knew Adam was in there, but there was no answer. He knocked harder and said, “Adam, I know you’re in there. Please open the door so we can talk about this. Please Adam! I never meant to hurt you and I really do care about you. Please!” There was still no answer. “Adam, please don’t do this to me, to us. I think I love you and I am so sorry I hurt you. Please let me in. Please!” The last word was a sob. The door slowly opened and Adam stood in the doorway, blocking Kris from entering.
“You did hurt me, Kris. You’re ashamed of me. Too ashamed to tell your father about us. That’s like a punch in the gut to me.”
“I realize that now, and I swear I will tell my father about us. Can I please come in and talk?”
Adam stepped back enough to let Kris in. Kris reached out to touch Adam’s arm, but Adam walked away and sat down on the bed. “You wanted to talk, so talk,” he said.
Kris walked over and sat on the floor in front of Adam. “I am not ashamed of you at all. I just was thinking that my father might freak out if he knew I’d had sex. He can be pretty conservative. Yeah, he and Mom accepted the fact that I’m gay, but they’re not thrilled about it. But it wouldn’t matter who I had sex with, you or one of the guests. They might freak out and decide we should go home to get me away from temptation. But I will tell my parents right after the Midsummer Show. I want you to know for sure that I’m not ashamed of you. But I also don’t want them taking me home before the Show.”
Kris reached up and put his hand on Adam’s knee. “Please believe me. I love you and I want to tell the world, but that’s not the smart thing to do. It could hurt both of us in so many ways.”
Adam sighed and pulled Kris up beside him on the bed. “I guess I’m just sensitive about being considered shameful. I was born and grew up in the suburbs of New York City. We weren’t wealthy, but we were upper middle class. My dad paid for my dance and voice lessons, for some reason not minding that I was interested in dancing as well as singing. I always felt that I was different from the other kids in school, especially after I turned 13 and puberty hit. I realized that I was attracted to boys instead of girls. I was so confused. I decided to talk to my father and see if he could help me. He didn’t help. He told me I was just confused and that men who liked other men were freaks. He said I needed to get over those feelings and act like a real man, otherwise things would be very hard for me. He said no son of his was going to be a queer, so I better not be saying such things to him ever again. He told me to get my head on straight and realize that I’m a man, not a fag.
“I was so scared after that. I was a freak - my dad had just told me that I was I tried to change. I dated a few girls. I kissed a couple of them and even had sex with one. But it never felt right. Then I met Billy. He was 19 and I was 16. We met while doing musical theater. I realized that he was gay and I started asking him about it. Things developed from there and then one day, my parents were out with my brother and weren’t supposed to be back until supper time. Billy and I were in my room doing it backdoor. My father walked in and found us like that. He literally threw me out of the house. I barely had time to grab my clothes. He beat the crap out of both Billy and me, then bodily threw us out the front door. He said he never wanted to see my perverted ass again, that if I ever showed up there he‘d shoot me. He told me I was a disgrace to the family name.” Adam got up and paced the room as he continued to talk.
“Billy had his own place, so we lived there for a while, but things didn’t go so well between us after that, so pretty soon I was on my own. I got a job as a bus boy at a diner and another one as a janitor at a department store. I made just enough to rent a room and to pay for my dance lessons, with a little left over for food. Eating was third on the list and I didn’t eat very well for a couple of years.
“I met Chad at the dance studio. He was taking lessons, too We fell in love. Well, I fell in love. I’m pretty sure he didn‘t. He was well off and didn’t need to work for a living. His parents gave him all the money he wanted, even though he was twenty. After we had been together for several months, I asked him when I was going to meet his family. He looked at me like I was crazy. He said, ‘I’m not going to introduce you to my parents. They expect me to settle down with someone from my own social class. You didn’t thing this was permanent, did you?’ Then he laughed at me for being so naive. I broke it off with him right then. I haven’t had a boyfriend since. I dated a couple of different guys for a week or two, but I was too gun shy to trust them. I've also had a few one-night stands, but they’ve been few and far between.
“I finally got a job in an Off-Broadway musical that paid decent money. I quit the other two jobs and I got a small apartment. I took voice lessons as well as dance lessons. I could eat a lot better. But pretty soon I realized that I wanted more than just doing musicals for the rest of my life, so I moved to Albany and opened my own studio, giving dance lessons and voice lessons. I worked my butt off to make it successful and now it’s something I’m very proud of. I’ve got a good reputation and the studio is doing very well. That’s why I was recruited for this job at Grossinger's for the past four summers. I also have a permanent gig singing at a club on weekends, as well as being a soloist in the Mendelssohn Club.” Adam sat back down beside Kris.
“I’m really happy with my life and the fact that I did it all on my own. But it gets lonely, being by myself all the time. But I’m too distrustful to start a relationship with anyone. At least I was until I met you. That’s my story and that’s why I was so upset when I thought you were ashamed of me and didn’t want your family to know you’re with me.”
Kris hugged Adam. He had tears in his eyes after listening to all that Adam had been through. He realized that he had it pretty darn good and knew absolutely nothing about the real struggles of being a gay man. He rested his head on Adam’s shoulder. “I am so proud of you and so proud to be your boyfriend. I was even before you told all this, but even more so now. I can’t wait to introduce you to my parents. My brother already knows about us and he’s cool. He won’t spoil the surprise for when you meet my parents.
“I can’t imagine how hard your life has been. You’ve had so much rejection and worked so hard for everything you’ve got. I kinda feel like Chad. I’ve had it easy. My parents are paying my way through college. I’ve never had to work or go without anything. You’re my hero.” He leaned up and kissed Adam. Adam’s eyes were shining with unshed tears as he kissed Kris back. Their love-making was slow and sweet. They held each other afterwards and kissed and talked some more. The only thing that finally forced them to get some sleep was the fact that they would be getting up early for practice again.
**********
After their conversation that night, Kris got a glimmer of an idea and the next night he told Adam he was feeling really tired, so he wanted to skip the usual dance party for the night and just relax. Adam wanted to go with him, but Kris told him not to be silly, he knew how much Adam loved the parties. Besides, they had been spending all their time together and he didn’t want Adam to get sick of seeing his face. Adam laughed and said that could never happen, but he let Kris go by himself.
When Adam got back to his cabin that night, Kris was sitting outside waiting for him. “Feeling better, Kris? I hope so. I’m feeling pretty revved up, so come on in.” He unlocked the door and pulled Kris inside and kissed him thoroughly. Kris felt weak in the knees and wanted nothing more than to fall into bed with Adam and make love until morning, but he had something serious he wanted to talk to Adam about and he needed to do it now.
“Adam, before we get to that, I really need to talk to you.” A look of sadness crossed Adam’s face.
“You’re going to break up with me, aren’t you? I knew it was too good to last. It’s ok, Kris. I understand. You have your world and I have mine.”
“Adam! Stop it and listen to me! It’s nothing like that! In fact, it’s just the opposite.” Adam looked at Kris warily. “I know that when the summer is over, I’m supposed to go back to Arkansas with my family and get busy with college and living that normal life I’m destined to have. But I don’t want that anymore. I want to be with you. I want to go back to Albany with you.” Adam opened his mouth, but Kris cut him off. “I’ve been thinking about this ever since we talked here last night. I know that right now it’s too late for me to apply to any colleges in Albany, so I can live with you if you want me to. I can apply for next year, or maybe even the second semester, and in the meantime, I can find a job to help out with expenses.
“Adam, I want a life with you. I don’t want to go back to Arkansas and try to forget about you. That isn’t even remotely possible. But if you don’t want me like that, then I will go back and start living my miserable, normal life.”
Adam stared at him, dumbfounded. Then he gathered Kris into his arms and captured Kris’ lips with his own for a very long, very passionate kiss. Both men were breathless with the force of the kiss.
“Oh, Kris,” Adam said with tears running down his cheeks, “I’ve thought about the same thing for quite a while, of you moving in with me. But I didn’t want to take you away from your normal family and ruin your perfect life. My life is so different than what you’re used to. I hope you won’t regret moving to Albany with me. But I want this so bad that I’m willing to take a chance. I’m stunned that you are, too.” They kissed again and ended up in bed, making love that seemed to both of them to be even more intimate than usual now that they were officially a real couple.
**********
Before Kris knew it, it was the day of the Midsummer Show. He had worked his butt off to get ready The entire group had practiced the whole Show for the past four afternoons. All the other dancers had told Kris he was going to do great and would be fine for the Show. But he was so nervous he felt like his heart was going to beat out of his chest. He begged Adam and Alli to please, please, please go through the dance one more time before they had to get dressed and in place backstage. Alli rolled her eyes, but the three of them went to the dance studio and went through the number twice in an effort to calm Kris down. Then Alli kissed Kris on the cheek, told him to break a leg and ran back to her cabin.
Kris and Adam walked out together. When they got to the corner where Adam would go one way and Kris the other, they stopped. “You’re going to do fine, Kris. I have confidence in you. You have natural rhythm and you’ve worked so hard. You know this dance inside and out. Trust yourself.” Then, glancing around quickly, he leaned in and kissed Kris quickly on the lips and hurried to his cabin. Kris smiled and headed for his room. Neither saw the young woman watching from behind the bushes of the hotel.
**********
With Alli whispering encouragement and some directions to him, Kris made it through the dance with only two or three small missteps. He felt so relieved when the Show was over, that he felt like he might throw up or pass out. After the second curtain call, he hurried to his dressing room and grabbed a bottle of water. He sat down on the rickety chair in front of the vanity and mirror and took a gulp before dropping his head between his legs to prevent himself from doing either. There was a knock on the door and he mumbled, “Come in.” The door flew open and all of the dancers came pouring into the room. They had a couple of bottles of champagne and a bouquet of flowers for Kris. For the next half hour, they all thanked Kris for saving the show and toasted him, drinking the champagne and hugging him tightly. Adam snuck in a kiss while he was hugging Kris.
Kris’ parents and his brother Daniel also came back and joined the celebration. Daniel was allowed to have one glass of champagne, even though he was under age. Mr. Grossinger himself showed up to celebrate, bringing another bottle of champagne to thank Kris for helping out, and telling him what a great job he had done. By the time the celebration was over, Kris was feeling like he was on cloud nine.
Finally, the dancers left to go change and Mr. Grossinger left to take care of a small emergency involving a misplaced key to the store room by the pool. Only Adam, Kris and Kris’ family were left. Kris’ parents said they better leave him alone so he could change. But Kris stopped them. “Wait a minute, Dad, Mom. There’s something really important I need to tell you. I hope you approve and that you don’t get upset.” He took Adam’s hand and pulled him close. “This is Adam Lambert. You know he’s the head dancer and in charge of all the stage shows. Well, we’ve been seeing each other. I love him and we’re a couple.”
Neil and Kim Allen just stared at Kris for what seemed like an eternity. Finally, his mother spoke. “How long has this been going on, Kristopher? Why haven’t you told us before now?”
Kris was honest with her. “It’s been going on pretty much since we got here last month. I didn’t tell you because I wasn’t sure how you’d react and I thought you might decide to take me home. I knew the dancers needed me for the show, so I wanted to wait until afterward to tell you so I wouldn’t have to let them down.” Kris took a deep breath. Adam squeezed his had for support and reassurance. “I also need to tell you that I’ve decided to move to Albany with Adam.”
Both of Kris’ parents started talking at the same time, both voicing their disapproval of this plan. Finally, Kris’ dad out-talked his mom and stated, “Kris, you are throwing away your whole life on a man you’ve known for barely six weeks. You’re involved in your first real romance and you’re not thinking clearly. A summer crush is not going to last. They never do. You will be coming back to Jacksonville with us and that’s all there is to it,” he said firmly, with a frown.
Kris’ mother added, “Yes, Kris, I know you think you’re in love with this...Adam, but you’re not. It’s puppy love. You’re too young to be in love, especially with him. If you insist on being a homosexual, than you should find someone who is discreet, who will make you happy and keep you safe at the same time.”
Kris got mad. He put his arm around Adam’s waist. “This is not a crush. It’s not a summer fling, It’s not puppy love. It’s the real thing. I’m an adult, legally and there is nothing you can do to keep me from going home with Adam. It’s a done deal. I wanted you to be happy for me. For us. I wanted you to accept Adam as part of the family since he makes me so happy. But I am moving in with him, even if you don’t approve.
“And just so you know, I’m still planning on going to college, just delaying it until next semester or next fall, but I am going to go. I’m not giving up on my life, I’m just adding a few important parts to it, Adam being the most important part of all.” He frowned back at his father, who was still frowning at him. Daniel was standing behind his parents, giving Kris the thumbs up sign and grinning.
Neil turned his anger toward Adam. “I hope you’re proud of yourself, young man. Ruining our son’s life is a great accomplishment. He had his life all mapped out and you came along and blew it all out of the water. Is this what you do here each summer? Find some innocent sucker to take back home to warm your bed for the winter, then discard him in favor of a new one the next summer? You disgust me!”
Adam spoke up before Kris could, “Yeah, I guess that's what you would see. You’re high class and I’m nothing but a low-class fag who wants to steal your son away from you and corrupt him. You’re wrong about me, but I don’t expect you to believe me. I love Kris with all my heart and I would never steal him from you. I was hoping you would be happy for us, but I guess that’s not happening.” He turned to Kris. “I’ll see you later. I’m going to go change.” He brushed past Kris’ parents and left the room, head held high.
Kris was seething. “How can you treat Adam like that? You don’t know him at all! He’s kind and decent and hard-working. He’s got his own studio in Albany and he teaches both dance and voice lessons. He built it up all by himself. Ask Mr. Grossinger why he hires Adam every summer to be the entertainment director. You’ll find out what kind of person he is. I love him and nothing you say is going to change my mind about going to live with him.” He glared defiantly at his father. “I think you both need to leave now. I’m going to change and go find Adam so I can try and make him feel better.”
“Kris, I am so disappointed in you right now. But, as you said, you’re an adult now, so the decision is yours to make. You’re going to move in with this con man and live to regret it eventually. When that time comes, let me know. You’ll still have a home with us. You’ll always be my son, but until you come to your senses, I do think it’s best if your mother and I leave. Daniel, come on. We’re going back to the hotel.” The three of them left Kris alone. He sank back down on his chair and put his head in his hands and cried.
**********
After Kris pulled himself together and changed his clothes, he went looking for Adam. He found him in his dressing room, still in his stage clothes. He had been crying, Kris could tell by the redness in his eyes and the tear stains on his cheeks. He turned to Kris as he entered. He smiled weakly at Kris as Kris came over to kiss him. When they stepped back, Adam spoke, “You father is right, Kris. You don’t belong with me. You belong back in Arkansas with your regular life and someone who can give you what you need, not with someone like me. I can’t provide the kind of life you deserve. I’ll always love you, but you should go with your family.”
Kris smacked Adam on the arm. Adam’s eyes widened in shock. “Adam Lambert! I did not just yell at my parents and defy them so you could back out of our arrangement! Don’t be an ass! My mind is made up. I’m coming home with you and you are stuck with me, so suck it up, man! Come on, get changed. I want to go back to your cabin so you can suck my cock until I beg for mercy. Hurry up!” He swatted Adam again. Adam’s face lit up as he smiled and then laughed. He changed as fast as he could, with a lot of “help” from Kris. They hurried back to Adam’s cabin and pretty soon, Kris was begging.
**********
The next afternoon, Kris decided he needed to try to talk to his parents again, so he waited until lunch was almost over and went to the main dining room to see them. Everyone was at the table, including the Rosenbooms. Just as Kris entered the room, Mr. Grossinger walked over to his parents’ table. As he got closer, Kris could hear Louise talking to Mr. Grossinger. “There is something going on here that I think you should know about, sir. This morning, I was up early and I heard a door bang shut. I looked out and I saw that main dancer, the tall, dark-haired man. He was coming out of the room down the hall where the Tollman boys are staying. It was about 7:00 this morning. I think that’s highly suspicious. Those dancers usually stay up late and get up late, so what was he doing in their room so early? You know how those male dancers can be,” she dropped her voice to a whisper, “homosexuals. I just don’t want anything bad to happen to those cute little boys.”
Mr. Grossinger became very upset. “The Tollman boys are only six and eight years old. If what you said is right, this man is a deviant. I am completely shocked! He’s worked here for four summers now and never gave any indication of being a pervert. I will confront him right now and if what you said is true, I'll fire him on the spot! Thank you, young lady, for bringing this to my attention. It can’t have been an easy thing for you to discuss in public.”
Louise smiled sweetly and lowered her eyes modestly. Kris stepped forward and she looked up, her face paling when she realized who was standing there. “Mr. Grossinger, I hate to put this so bluntly, but Miss Rosenboom is lying. Adam was not in the Tollman boys’ room this morning or any other morning. He was with me last night, all night. We have been spending every night together for the last six weeks. There is no way he did anything to those boys.”
Louise gasped and turned red. Mr. Grossinger stood there with his mouth open, not sure what to do, or who to believe. Finally, he signaled to the nearest busboy. “Leo, go find Adam Lambert and bring him here immediately.” Leo nodded and headed for the door.
“Adam is right outside the dining room. I came to talk to my parents and he’s waiting out there for me.” Louise whispered to her father, asking if she could leave, since Adam made her uncomfortable. He father gave her a withering glance and told her to sit still. It didn’t take long for Leo to return with Adam. Adam walked up to the table, not sure what was going on.
Mr. Grossinger came right to the point. “Adam, Miss Rosenboom has made a very serious accusation about you. She claims she saw you coming out of the room down the hall from hers early this morning, a room where two young boys are staying.” Adam looked shocked, then became angry.
“That is absolutely not true, sir! I am not a pedophile. I don’t molest young boys. You know me. You know I wouldn’t do anything like that!”
Mr. Grossinger then asked, “But would you sleep with an adult guest? Because that’s what young Mr. Allen is claiming. He says the two of you have been spending the night together since the beginning of the summer. Is that true?”
Adam turned to Kris. “Kris, you confessed to them, to save me? You didn’t have to do that! I...I don’t know what to say, except thank you so much. No one has ever stuck up for me like that before.” He gave Kris a brilliant smile, then turned to Mr. Grossinger. “Yes, it’s true, sir. I have been having an affair with Kris. We’re in love with each other. I’ll go pack my things and leave quietly.”
“Why are you leaving?” asked Mr. Grossinger. “Do you think I don’t know that you’re a homosexual? I’ve known since the first summer you worked here. I’ve seen dozens of female guests throw themselves at you and you’ve turned every one of them down. No straight man has that much will power. I also figure a good number of your other male dancers are homosexuals as well. As long as you don’t flaunt it around the guests, I really don’t care. You are the best entertainment director I’ve ever had here. I hope you’ll keep coming back every summer. Now, get out of here. You have the final night show to figure out.”
Adam smiled and Kris said, “Mom, Dad, I really do want to talk to you. Can you come to my room later, like 4:00? Please.” His father looked from Kris to Adam and simply nodded. Adam and Kris turned to leave.
Mr. Grossinger looked at Louise Rosenboom. “Miss Rosenboom, I take it very seriously when someone lies to me. Especially when they are trying to get someone else in trouble.” He now looked at Louise’s parents. “Mr. and Mrs. Rosenboom, I know you have been loyal customers for many years, but I’m afraid I’m going to have to ask you all to leave. I have very strict standards here for both employee and guest behavior. Your daughter has broken one of the more important rules. I will give you until dinner time to pack and check out.” He turned and stalked away.
**********
Adam practically ran all the way back to his cabin, with Kris behind him, panting to keep up. As soon as the door was shut and locked, Adam tossed Kris down on the bed and pulled off his clothes. He took his own off and laid down on top of Kris, bringing their erections together and rubbing his against Kris’. Then he cupped Kris’ face with both hands and kissed him over and over. After several minutes, Adam pushed himself up on his elbows and looked at Kris. “Kris, I still can’t believe what you did for me. I’ve been afraid to ask this before because I still had doubts about whether you really loved me or not, but now I know you do. Will you let me go all the way with you? For me, this is the ultimate expression of love. I know you’ve never done it before, so I’ll go really slow and I’ll be as gentle as I can be. Do you think you want to?”
Kris beamed at Adam. “I thought you’d never ask.” Adam kissed him fiercely and scrambled off the bed to dig through his suitcase for his lube. He finally found it and hurried back to the bed. Kris started to rollover onto his stomach, but Adam stopped him. “No, I want to see your face and be able to kiss you.”
“But I thought the one on the bottom had to be on his hands and knees,” Kris said.
“No, sweetie, there are a lot of different positions for this. Just lie on your back, bend your knees up and spread your legs. The farther up you can pull you legs, the better.” When Kris was positioned correctly, Adam settled between his legs and squirted some lube on his fingers. He leaned in and kissed Kris. “I’m going to go slow. It’s going to feel strange for you the first time. I need to stretch you so my cock will fit inside you, so I’m going to do that with my fingers. I’ll put one in first, then two and then three. Once you’re stretched and ready, I’ll put my cock in you.” He paused and kissed Kris again. “Are you sure you’re ready to do this?” Kris nodded with a smile. He was actually scared witless, but he wanted to do this and he wanted to do it with Adam.
“Ok, here we go, then,” Adam said and placed one finger against Kris’ hole. He rubbed it gently, gradually working his finger inside. Kris grunted at the strange feeling but was still ok. After Adam worked the first finger for a couple of minutes, he slid the second one in. Kris gasped. “Are you ok? I’ll stop if you want,” Adam said. Kris shook his head no.
:”Keep going. I’m ok,” Kris replied. Adam nodded and worked Kris open with two of his fingers. When he thought Kris was ready, he said, “I’m going to add the third finger now. It’s going to feel very strange, a full feeling and may burn a little bit. Just hang on and it will be worth it.” Kris smiled gamely and clutched the sheet with both hands. Adam worked his third finger in and Kris sucked in his breath and held it. Adam moved his fingers back and forth and in and out. Suddenly he did something that made Kris see stars. Holy crow! What the hell? Damn, that was... Kris’ hips bucked and he moaned. “What was that? I...it felt like fireworks going off down there,” he managed to say.
Adam laughed. “That, dear Kris, is your prostate. It feels pretty damn good when it’s stimulated like this.” And he flexed his fingers and hit the spot again. Kris almost came off the bed. “Shit! Damn! Can you do that again?”
Adam laughed again. “I can and I will. With my cock. I think you’re ready.” Adam pulled his fingers out and Kris felt empty without them. Then he felt the head of Adam’s cock pressing against him.. Adam eased it inside of Kris and it burned. He gasped and gripped the sheets harder. Adam didn’t move for a couple of minutes, giving Kris a chance to get used to the feeling. Then he pressed in a little farther. This time, Kris was ready for the burn and breathed through it. Adam pressed in a little farther and then a little more. That did it, Kris saw stars again. “Adam! Oh, God! That’s the spot!”
Adam started moving in and out, maintaining a rhythm, hitting Kris’ prostate with almost every thrust. Kris was moaning and pressing back against Adam’s cock, taking it deeper inside him. Adam leaned in to kiss Kris. “You are so amazing. You look absolutely beautiful like this.” Adam then took hold of Kris’ cock with one hand and began to stroke it in rhythm with his thrusts. Kris was on sensory overload at this point. He just bucked his hips and whimpered. He felt a funny feeling starting low in his abdomen and quickly spreading throughout his body. He realized it was his orgasm, and it hit him like a freight train. He came all over his stomach and chest, covering Adam’s hand as well. He shuddered with the force of it. Adam kept thrusting, but stroked Kris’s hair and kissed him through the aftershocks, until Kris was lying, wrecked and limp on the bed. Adam gave a few more strokes as he looked at Kris and soon his own orgasm hit. He came, calling out Kris’ name. Then he pulled out of Kris and collapsed beside him.
Both of them lay there panting for a few minutes. Then Kris turned over and laid his head on Adam’s chest, snuggling as close as he could. “That was so amazing. It was better than I had ever imagined it could be. Thank you so much.” He kissed Adam’s chest. Adam laid his head on top of Kris’ and said, “It was amazing for me, too. I’ve never had it feel this good. I’m glad your first time was so good for you.” They laid there in comfortable silence until Kris had to get up and get dressed so he could meet his parents in his room.

Kris sat on his bed anxiously waiting for his parents to get there. At exactly 4:00, there was a knock on the door. He hurried to open it and let his parents in. Daniel was with them. His parents sat on Daniel's bed, Daniel sat on the chair and Kris sat on his bed. He hesitated, then began. "I wanted to talk to you again about Adam and me. I know you think I'm too young to fall in love and that Adam will end up breaking my heart. You may be right, but being with Adam feels like where I belong. I need to see where this goes. I feel like Adam is the best thing that ever happened to me and I'm willing to risk a broken heart to see if I'm right.. But I don't want to lose you. You're my family. But my life includes Adam now. Adam feels the same way. I hope you can respect my decision and that you'll keep in contact with me while I'm in Albany. We can call each other and write to each other. Maybe you can even come to visit us." He looked hopefully at his parents.
There was a moment of silence, then his mother spoke. "Kristopher, your father and I have discussed this several times since you told us about your relationship with Adam. After what happened in the dining room this afternoon, we even spoke with Mr. Grossinger about Adam. He had nothing but good things to say about Adam. We both realize that we were too quick to judge him. You may be young, but I was 18 when I married your father, and he was 19, and we've been happily married for twenty years. We know it's possible to fall in love at your age. It's just hard to think of your own child as being an adult. But you are and we have come to the conclusion that you might be making the right decision. We will stand behind you and will welcome Adam into the family."
"We will have three sons instead of two," his father spoke up. "As long as Adam keeps you happy, he's welcome in our family. We have two more weeks here and we'd like to get to know him better. You go to Albany with him and we'll send the rest of your things to you after we get back home. We'll miss you. It won't be the same without you around,." He stopped talking to hold back his tears. Kim was already crying quietly. Daniel held out the tissue box to them and Kim took it. She dabbed at her eyes.
"If you really want to get to know Adam, why don't we have dinner with him in the staff dining room tonight? I'm sure that can be arranged for us." Kim sniffed and nodded. Neil also nodded, brushing tears away with the back of his hand. He cleared his throat and said, "Well, now that we have that all settled, I think we should leave before your mother gets too weepy."
They all stood up and Kim hugged and kissed Kris. Neil hugged him as well and patted him on the back. After they left, Daniel smiled at Kris. "That was pretty bitchin when you yelled at the old man back in your dressing room. Man that took guts. I didn't know you had that in you." He slapped Kris on the back. "Way to go, man. I'm gonna miss you too, you know." He followed his parents out. Kris went in search of Adam.

Kris found Adam in the dance studio practicing for the Finale. The last Saturday night of the season, the entertainers did one last big show before all the guests left the next day. It was much more extravagant than the Midsummer Show. There would be singing as well as dancing. Adam had a dance solo as well as a voice solo. Kris had yet to hear Adam sing, so he was hoping to get a chance before the big finale night. But right now, Adam was practicing his dance solo. Kris just stood in the doorway and admired Adam's gracefulness and amazing talent as he ran through his Quick Step routine. He had never seen anyone's feet move that fast as Adam moved across the floor, running, hopping, twisting and turning, backwards and forwards.
When Adam finally finished his run-through, Kris clapped loudly. Adam was sweating and out of breath and he picked up his bottle of water and took a long drink. He smiled at Kris and sank down on the bench, patting the seat beside him. Kris went over to join Adam on the bench. "So, how did it go with your parents?" Adam asked.
"You're going to be shocked. They have come around to accepting us as a couple. They want to get to know you during the last couple of weeks that they're here. In fact, they are having dinner with us at the staff dining room tonight. I hope that's ok."
Adam was shocked. He looked at Kris with raised eyebrows. "What changed their minds?"
"Well, they thought about what I had said to them, and they also talked to Mr. Grossinger. He gave you a rave review. Then they remembered that they got married when Mom was 18 and Dad was 19, so they couldn't tell me I was too young to fall in love. Plus, they were impressed that I outed myself for you in the dining room after lunch. They said they trust my judgment and now they think you might be ok. So, is dinner tonight ok?"
"Of course it's ok. It's more than ok, it's great!" Adam hugged Kris. Kris pushed him away.
"Ew! You're all sweaty! Just give me a kiss!" Adam smiled with a wicked glint in his eye and hugged Kris tight, so he couldn't get away, then he kissed him as well. When Adam finally let him go, Kris gave him a shove. "Jerk! Now I'm all sweaty and smelly, too. I better go take a shower before dinner. We've got about an hour before we need to be there." He leaned over and carefully gave Adam a small peck on the lips. Then he got up and went for his shower.

Dinner went well, with Kris' parents being impressed with Adam. He was charming and intelligent besides being funny and polite. He told them a little bit about his background, leaving out the part about his father beating him up and throwing him out. Neil and Kim were impressed that Adam had gone out on his own and built up his studio with dedication and hard work. They were completely reassured about letting Kris move in with Adam.
After dinner, Adam and Kris were heading for the Club House when Kris asked, "So when am I going to get to hear you sing? I saw you practice your dance this afternoon, but I've never heard you sing. I'm dying to know what your voice sounds like."
Adam suddenly seemed a little shy. "You're going to have to wait until the show. I want it to be a surprise for you." He refused to budge on the subject, so Kris agreed to be surprised.

Over the next two weeks, the five of them had dinner together six more times. Kris' parents grew fond of Adam and welcomed him into the family with ease. He fit right in and they made him feel like a part of their family. They told him that he must come to Arkansas and see their home and where Kris grew up. They also planned on visiting Adam and Kris in Albany for Thanksgiving.
Finally, it was the last Saturday of the summer. The Finale was that night. Kris was excited because he knew Adam was going to kill it with his solo dance. Also, Kris would finally get to hear him sing. Kris didn't see Adam at all after they got up and had breakfast together. Adam said he had to practice one last time and make sure everything was all set for the Finale, so he promised to see Kris after the show. Kris passed the time by playing cards with some of the older guests and then going swimming with Daniel and his friends. He also packed his suitcase, excited for the new life that lay ahead of him starting tomorrow.
Kris dressed in his best suit and favorite tie for the show. He sat with his family near the front of the audience. First, all the dancers did a number, then there was a quartet that sang a popular song that got the guests clapping and singing along. There were some more dances with four or five dancers in each. Another quartet sang an older song that went over well with the more mature guests. Then Adam danced his Quick Step solo. The crowd cheered, oohing and ahing as he flew across the floor, spinning and sliding. The whole dance troupe did another breathtaking number and then it was time for Adam's solo song. He was dressed all in black with purple accents on his collar and cuffs and a purple tie. He stood there in the spotlight behind the microphone as the music started. He opened his mouth and began singing "It's Now or Never", made popular by Elvis Presley.
Kris just sat there with his mouth open in amazement. There was total silence from the audience as Adam's voice rose and fell with the melody, soaring to unbelievable heights at the end. There was thunderous applause and a standing ovation when he finished. He bowed and mouthed Thank You to the crowd. They demanded three curtain calls, two just for Adam.
Kris' parents were also stunned, not only by Adam's dancing, but by his voice. They went backstage with Kris to Adam's dressing room. It was crowded with the other dancers and singers, having a champagne celebration, all of them congratulating Adam on his performances. He seemed a little embarrassed by all the attention. As he had done with Kris' celebration, Mr. Grossinger showed up with a bottle of champagne to toast Adam and another successful summer of entertainment. It was quite a while before everyone left and Adam was alone with Kris.
Kris sat down in Adam's lap and hugged him tight and kissed him. "Why didn't you tell me you sing like an angel? Elvis himself couldn't sing that song any better. You were absolutely amazing. You just blew me away."
Adam wrapped his arms around Kris and said, "I told you I wanted to surprise you. The song was for you, of course, and I didn't want you to hear it before the show. So now you know my deepest, darkest secret. I hope you're not too shocked or disgusted by it."
Kris laughed. "You're such a goofball. I expect you to sing me to sleep every night from now on, now that I know you can sing like that."
"I would love to sing you to sleep. I like the sound of that, since it means we will be sleeping together every night from now on."
Adam quickly changed out of his show outfit and back into his jeans and t-shirt. They made their way to Adam's cabin for their last night together at Grossinger's. They made love, then Adan sang Kris to sleep.

The next morning, both Adam and Kris had breakfast in the main dining room with Kris' family. It was a bittersweet meal. They had all had some rough patches during the summer, but now they were a family, with Adam feeling their acceptance of him. However, the summer was over and Neil, Kim and Daniel would be heading South to Arkansas, while Kris and Adam would be heading North. They didn't know when they would see each other again.
It was around 11:00 by the time they all had their suitcases packed and stowed in their cars. They stood in a group by the Allen's car hugging and kissing and crying and promising to call each other soon. Finally, they couldn't put it off any longer, so Neil, Kim and Daniel got in their car and, waving frantically out the windows, drove away.
Adam and Kris walked to Adam's car and got in. Adam leaned over to steal a kiss. Then he asked, "Are you ready to start this new adventure? It's going to be like nothing you've ever experienced before."
Kris laughed. "That's what I'm hoping for. Let's go." Adam started the car and they headed off into the unknown, together.
