I've been on a diet for the past 2 months now. I've lost about 16 pounds, which is good. I'm using My Fitness Pal to track calories and I'm trying to eat healthier. More vegetables, less cheese (so sad), fewer carbs, less soda (1/day), more water (like 16+ glasses a day), etc ( Read more... )

Are you checking your sugars while you diet?  I'm amazed at how much too little sugar affects me with the shakes and too much makes Jim angry/moody

I just checked the app and I'm averaging around 10%-50% more in sugar than I'm supposed to. Generally, It's only potassium and vitamin C that I'm low on. That's been fairly regular for the past 2 months, while the issues have only been around for the past couple of days.

That said, quick carbs (like bread) tend to fill me up and calm me down (and vegetables/protein don't). So it might be blood sugar drops that the app isn't registering because it only looks at a whole day. I'll keep an eye on it.

That's sort of what I'm doing now. I'm restricted to 2010 calories per day, adjusted for activity, and usually I'm under that (sometimes by 1, sometimes by 500). However, Saturday is my "cheat day" and my caloric intake jumps to between 5,500 and 6,500 calories. The hope is that it gives me a chance to satisfy cravings, maintain a positive outlook, and "trick" my body into thinking that there's no reason to enter a starvation metabolism.

Looking into rustymarble's suggestion, it looks like I need to ensure that my calories from carbohydrates stay around 50%, and are maintained throughout the day. Not getting enough of those makes me "hangry" (which is apparently a normal "thing" I've dealt with my entire life, but didn't know was normal ( ... )
