So I return to Canada on Monday. I'm looking forward to family and familar things, but am going to miss Gerda and her family a lot. They've been so wonderful to me these past three months its hard to think I won't see them again at least until the fall ( Read more... )

I have been sick - to varying degrees - since the end of March with digestive troubles. I've seen a nurse twice. Most recently she recommended probiotics (or something like that) so I've been taking them for four days now and it *might* be helping, but its slow progress. Today I called AND emailed resumes to FOUR private English instruction companies in Sweden - That is a good days work! I am seeking work to start in August or Sepember. Two of the schools gave quite positive responses. Yes!

We're fully into the the family birthday season here with Gerda's birthday just past and her brother and father's next week. The tradition of the whole family waking the birthday person singing is really wonderful - I think I might try to bring it home with me. Our weekend up North was lovely - just as is just about every day here :) I'm really, really loving it. This weekend we travelled to Gerda's old college Hampnas in Örnsköldsvik (Övik) for three nights and then went a little further north to stay with her friend Marie in Umeå. Her friends are great fun. Just a quick note to let you know I'm still alive and very much enjoying my Swedish life. I've helped at Gerda's old elementary school with her twice now. We went skating on Sweden's deepest lake on long distance skates (not so easy to use!) and actually now are headed up to her old college in the 'North (actally the middle) of Sweden.
