Sweet, got a job offer from Intel for their newest production line technology in their newly-built Fab 32 lab (located in Chandler, AZ, just outside of Phoenix; the plant is literally a 15 min drive from my parents' house). I'm going to speak with a staffing consultant later this week and he'll go over the details ( Read more... )

I'm not sure yet, I'll get the job offer details tomorrow.

At least I'll be making much more money here than other companies I was applying for, so I'll be able to fly back pretty often. Also, I will work 4 days on, 3 days off, 3 days on, 4 days off, repeat... so I'll get 4 days weekends a lot, which are probably the best time to come back!

Wait, does this mean I'm obligated to switch over from AMD on my next computer?

Nah, AMD is cheaper, which is good for us poor students. Right now though AMD is falling way behind because they still haven't managed to produce simultaneous multithreading in their processors. And they are just about to finally start production on 45nm... the lab I'll be working in will be up to full speed (it's at 75% atm) pumping out 45nm chips when I start working, and Intel's already getting ready to make 32nm chips. Basically, Intel has a pretty big lead on AMD; right now it's really only noticeable in servers/workstations. If AMD hasn't figured out how to process in parallel by the time software starts supporting it, they're screwed.

Yeah, I figured something like that was happening with AMD. I'm not overly familiar with the tech... but now that you're officially working for Intel I don't have to be! :)
