We came to an agreement that for two weeks we would try getting the boys up for potty breaks every three hours. This with the theory that they wouldn't wet the bed and would get the idea that they're not supposed to pee laying down. We did think far enough to say that if it worked we would establish longer periods between potty breaks until ( Read more... )

When is the last time they have something to drink before they go to sleep? I know I can't make it through the night without getting up at least once if I have more than about a tablespoon of water in the 1.5 hours before bed...but I've just come to terms with having a bladder the size of a walnut. ;-)

In general you maintain a higher water table than I do... so I'm just guessing it's not just the size of your bladder ( ... )

My understanding is that bed wetting isn't a habit so much as it is the bladder not screaming loudly enough to wake the child up (or the child sleeping so soundly that s/he just doesn't hear the call of nature) before it needs to release. I know as a grown up, some mornings I've barely made it from the bed to the toilet if I was sleeping really soundly & couldn't quite shake the sleep off....I'd assume it's something similar for the tiny humans you deal with.

I don't know that they've (where they = experts) ever totally sorted out all the causes. Reading the internet about the topic seems to prove that.

The only thing certain is that I want it to happen in the bathroom instead of the bed. I haven't actually read much on the topic of bed wetting - though I did read about potty training... and we're beyond that.
