According to a September Pew research poll:  "While 25% of Americans say they would be less likely to vote for a Mormon for president, 45% express reluctance about voting for a Muslim and 61% say they would be less likely to support a candidate who does not believe in God."

Yes.  Your reading that correctly.  75% of Americans would be perfectly ( Read more... )

I'm gonna have to agree...those are disturbing statistics. As someone who believes in a creator I would have no problem voting for an atheist if they struck me as a good leader.

I mean fuck look at Bush...he's a christian and he's terrible.

I absolutely disagree with your other statement: it's hypocritical, you're being just as bad as a chrisitain: you'd really NOT for someone because they ARE a christian...?

Why take a side? Why not just vote for WHOEVER strikes you as a good leader regardless of race, gender, or religion?

A good leader would have to be capable of making rational decisions... and you can't make rational decisions if you take your advice from a giant cosmic space-daddy. I would be against voting for a christian for the same reason I would be against voting for a scientologist, a mental patient, or a man who still believes in Santa... they're not rationalists... and that's what this country needs right now.. someone who thinks rationally.

Right because NO great leaders, scientists, artisits, musicans or authors have EVER been christians and accomplished amazing things.

Eintstein supported creationism and formed the theory of relativity well he's a dumbass I guess, must've got lucky with that one...maybe he stole it like in that family guy episode.

YOUR philosophical doubt of a creator doesn't make those who do believe in a creator irrational.

Besides, an atheist leader and a religious leader could very easily have the same degree of education, military experience, and above all else a sense of morality to get this country back on its feet. I repeat: Why not just vote for WHOEVER strikes you as a good leader REGARDLESS of race, gender, or religion?

"palace in the sky" and "candyland". hahahahaha.

and of course ryan i agree with you. choosing a religious platform to run on is like choosing sides at school while all the atheist kids who don't care are smoking pot behind the cafeteria not fighting eachother.

We agree to disagree. The only thing you've convinced me of is Einstein's stance, I could've sworn he was an orthodox jew...

I guess you mean well and that's what counts. Still most atheists should be considered questionable because often times their beliefs are out of anger not science, and yeah I know it's basically the same way with religion, there's no reason.

Fuck it. I'd rather live life then analyze it.
