Why is it that a good actor, and by all accounts a genuinely nice guy, who suffers a life-threatening accident, then works and fights and forces his way to the point where you start to have hope...why doesn't a guy like that make it? Having a hard time working with that one right now.

I'm not sure. It was a really sad day for me. I just hope that someday a cure is found for spinal injuries and everyone remembers how much Christopher Reeve did to encourage that research.
