Costume Con: HSQ is through the roof.

May 05, 2009 21:29

Costume Con is not for the faint of heart, especially if you plan to compete. It is an intense eye-gasm of color, beading, detail, and fabric. It is where the normal outfit is an endangered species, and beads, bangles, and thread are eaten for breakfast. (With the occasional alcoholic drink as a chaser) It is where the words "holy shit" ring out ( Read more... )

I have every intent on doing Dawn this year. Just gotta figure out the time to make it. (Fortunately, I don't have nearly as many complicated costumes)

You can definitely still perform. There were a lot of presentations with great performances. One was a group doing what looked like an religious ritual, dressed in what I think was Egyption funeral garb. Another woman dressed as a strange creature hunting for fireflies, and moved around the stage beautifully. The last group did "Costume Con 1889" or something like that, with all steampunk costumes, parodying the typical sci-fi/fantasy masquerade (with four different versions of "the snow queen" including one of them chasing another off the stage with a spear). And I already told you about the ballerina.

So you definitely can do a short performance on stage. And your performances are always awesome.

One of the Historical Best in Show entrants did a little ballet number. So there's always room for a performance. Just don't think of it as a skit.

I finally figured out the difference between cosplayers who would enjoy CC and those who wouldn't. If someone decides to cosplay as a certain character because they like the character, then CC might not be for them. If someone decides to cosplay as a certain character because they like the outfit and want to try to recreate it, then CC is for them. That's a generalization of course, because I fall into both categories, but the second one always applies.

Where did you get the pictures from the fan photography station? I wanted to see pictures how the pictures of Terra came out.

2011 is going to be epic. Oh yes.

I bought them. The 4x6 pics were only $1.25. They had an order form at the station on Monday. (They're able to do shipping and other sizes if you want them.)

You're showing ankle! How dirty!

I found you! Why do I feel like an internet stalker? lol. I had the crazy red hair and the looooong train.

This was my first costume con too, and I'm still in that post con excitement/"let's do that again!" phase. I wish I could make it to next year's, but it seems unlikely. Meh.

My sister went to costume con last year, someday I will get there too. I would be very interested in the workshop panels.

Some anime cons around here do sell past contest footage (animazement) and some also do have con suites (but sometimes don't announce the locations very well).
