Writing highs and lows

In which I ramble about the writing process for a bit. This is about the original novel I'm working on, feel free to skip on by, I'm just using my journal as an outlet for my writing thoughts. It helps to clear my head and make more room for the story ( Read more... )

I am glad you are opening to changing your ending bb. Do not pull a JKR, I am begging you.

The rest of it will come to you, I think. Just give it time. Just think it out, picture the possibilities in your head. Don't be afraid to write it down, as if it were the final version, only to throw it out. Trial and error bb.

Well, I don't know the end of the series yet. Just this particular book. I'm not sure if I'll even know the ending of the series until I get to it. From what I remember JKR had her ending planned from pretty much the beginning, no? I'm not sure if that's lucky or unlucky, lol.

Thanks! That's good advice and I'm trying, I just wonder sometimes if what I'm doing is too ambitious.

I was referring more to her epilogue, which if I recall correctly was written fairly early on - and she didn't change it at all. Literally tacked it on to Deathly Hallows. And it was horrible (at least I think so? I could be wrong) because it didn't match what her series became. All was not fucking well. Sorry, I have strong feelings about this ignore me it's cool.

Not too ambitious! You can do it, just don't worry about it being too much, or whether or not you should be doing it. Just do it. Let yourself become immersed in it and fuck everything else.

Yeah, I recall that her epilogue was written early on. I find it kind of limiting to write a 'happily ever after' and work backwards from there.

Thanks! I'll try to remember that when I'm pulling my hair out in despair. There really is no backing out of this since I've already spent a year on this and I have 50k written. Only way out is through.
