In 1944, while Universal's other monster franchises were running out of ideas, the Invisible Man series could still be counted on for creativity. The invisible man this time is Bob Griffin (Jon Hall), who is strangely no relation to the other invisible Griffins, Jack, Frank, and Frank. Bob starts the film as an insane fugitive from justice, and stumbles upon the laboratory of Dr. Peter Drury (John Carradine). Drury is anxious to use Bob as a test subject for his invisibility experiments. He does not realize until too late that Bob has his own agenda--revenge on those he feels has wronged him!
Innovations include a method for the Invisible Man to turn visible again--a full blood transfusion which drains his victim completely to death. Alas, the effect is temporary. There is a great use of a dog and as always great special effects, including some involving a dog harness which I can't figure out.
THE INVISIBLE MAN'S REVENGE is Universal's last Invisible Man picture from the classic era except for the upcoming ABBOTT AND COSTELLO MEET THE INVISIBLE MAN (1951).
