Purging and an ethical (maybe) dilemma

I am getting rid of stuff and I am reading about others getting rid of things. Sometimes the reasons for getting rid of something is because you think it isn't safe enough for your family (i.e. the plastics that we've been talking about or the crib bumper that I wasn't actually using anyhow, but has now been denounced as unsafe). That is a really tough one. I did donate all the plastic stuff we didn't want. I'm not sure what I'd do about something I thought might pose an immediate danger. I guess it depends on how dangerous I thought it was. We never had a crib, just a co-sleeper.

To me it's not tough at all. Someone who doesn't think about the issues crib bumpers and plastics pose is not going to not buy those things just because you didn't donate them. IMHO, second hand is still infinitely better than brand new.

Kudos for getting rid of stuff, whatever the reason!

I'm with Holly on this one. You're only responsible to make safety decisions for yourself and your own family. Once that is done, re-use/recycle is the better option in my opinion.

We all die a little when these decisions are made for us. And always be careful what you suggest. Sooner or later, there will be somebody in a position to mandate something of you, that you don't agree with.

When somebody tells me I can't do something, it rarely matters if they are right.
