I've been in Berlin the last five days, mostly at 27C3. Man, I am NEVER buying a HDD again

So, I'll bite. Why are you never buying a hard disk again?

It'll pass, but after the talk on data recovery, which mostly concerned "ways storage media can fail and hey this is really fragile stuff", I'm a bit spooked, is all.

The conference had some really interesting stuff (build your own GSM sniffer/decrypter with four $15 phones and around 2TB of storage space for the rainbow tables for A5/1, how fucked is the security of the PS3? very!, etc.), some "average" (whatever that means), but only one I went to was an "enh", and that was because the speaker mumbled away from the mike, read from her notes, and had very non-informative slides - the topic of the talk was still interesting.
