Oh God. Nightmare. I loathe that stuff.

Those are times when I like to dig through my purse a lot to see what goodies I can unearth. By the time the professional development is over my purse is clean as a whistle and I've thrown out those old mints that have been festering in the bottom since 2000.

ah, the ol' cleaning-out-your-purse trick...if only i carried a purse!

eh, actually it wasn't that bad at all, especially the HR part where i signed up for benefits and direct deposit. there were lots of free gifts (portfolios, paper, pens, etc.); they fed us breakfast and lunch, and several sessions offered great door prizes ranging from more pens to ipods. i didn't win an ipod (damn it!) but i did win a door prize called the "cook's special" which included an apron, hot pad, hot sauce, a pepper plant, mixing bowl, fabric napkins, wooden cooking utensils, all in the university color.

Hey, cool! I'm glad it wasn't painful and somewhat enjoyable! That's quite spectacular.

I'm going to be starting one of those orientations soon (S 10) for a grant writing job at Mayo Clinic. We'll see how clean my bag gets.

The heat. I unfortunately had to attend a police funeral a couple of weeks ago, and it was a very impressive affair, at least 5 or 6 thousand officers from all over Canada there in our dress uniforms which are, unfortunately, made of wool. After sitting for almost 3 hours in an overheating arena I nearly passed out on the march (seriously - I had to put my head down whenever we stopped). There is really only a narrow window every year when those uniforms are comfortable.
