PSA: Livejournal Outbound Link Redirection

Mar 04, 2010 15:05

Livejournal apparently has begun redirecting a subset of outgoing links through an affiliate-revenue-generating alteration site. This is not necessarily bad, but if you think that LJ can be trusted unconditionally, given its track record, I have some sub-prime mortgage-backed securities to sell you. Thanks for the signal boost - might want to double-check your post HTML though; looks like there's some text missing due to a bad A tag.

"Trying new things." Heh heh heh. That choice of phrase makes it sound like they're trying that one Thai place down the street, or finally letting their partner tie them up like they've been talking about for months.

SIGH if only~

*wag* That is hilarious.

If anyone whispered the words "driving revenue" into my ear during sex, I hope I'd kick them out of bed. But perhaps that's unfair, I once murmured "patriarchy" to someone in a moment of passion, and I was rewarded rather than punished for my bad behavior. :>

This isn't the last time I'm going to use the LJ console to do something, but I wanted to delay that for as long as I could. Honestly, by now I thought I was going to have to ban somebody, and I would prefer it to this sort of nonsense. You know that I stopped using Windows for this kind of stupid system upkeep?

Oh, well. I haven't had to open a Dreamwidth account yet, as everybody mirrors their posts.

Nngh... How bad is it for LJ that they're doing this? I mean, without letting us know about it first?

It's quite bad.

It is a poorly considered thing in many dimensions, prone to chapping the hides of us mere users.
