"What would reinforce negative stereotypes is the idea that old people are filled with pet peeves, taking offense at innocent attempts to be friendly." You mean, like...EVERYONE ELSE ON THE PLANET? That's not a negative stereotype of old people...that's a basic truth about every single person I've ever met. Everyone is filled with pet peeves and gets offended sometimes by innocent attempts to be friendly. This is normal human behavior. People get annoyed sometimes. That doesn't mean we should go around being disrespectful when we're aware of a better alternative!
I love the one who peppers her conversations with profanity just to fuck with people's minds. I love old people who do that. They make me really happy.
I laughed a little when I read the article because I'm so used to having old people call me "sweetie" and "dear". It wouldn't even occur to me to call someone three times my age those things. And it does annoy me sometimes, especially when it's someone I kinda know but don't really know THAT well, and they're trying to act
