Reading and stuff

So work. Not talking about it. Much. I think I'm burning out (which wasn't supposed to happen for another few years). Maybe it's less of a total conflagration than a campfire. I'm not recovering well on my days off. It's affecting my medicine as well as my attitude at work. And I dunno, I'm just being really down and depressed in general which ( Read more... )

Ugh. I know. It's kinda lazy - like instead of making you care about his characters to the point that a paper cut is traumatic enough, he skips the whole character-building and has to heap torture upon torture that just numbs you to reading about torture. Which is just... I just stopped.

Yeah, that's basically the entire point of grimdark fantasy--to have so many horrors and so much violence and callousness that the readers can pat themselves on the back for being so much edgier and tougher than all the wimps who think GRRM is hardcore. I dislike the entire genre.

I hope a better schedule and some days in Maine help you rest mentally. ♥

There are some beautiful hikes in Acadia - hope you get the chance to explore the park! And that work gets better, too.

Ohh, if you have any suggestions, I'd love to hear them. I'm thinking of spending an extra day before the conference. I will have a bike and a dog (although he's also going to be spending a fair amount of time at a local kennel)

Is it worth getting up for sunrise at the top of Cadillac Mtn?

I wasn't there long enough to do sunrise, but my sister's in laws live there and she's done it several times. Here's a picture from one of her trips:
