well just because you take someone to court and the judge says, "you owe so-and-so this money" doesn't mean they will pay you the money. And because I don't live in the same state as my house, it would cost me a lot of $ and time to keep traveling 8 hours to OH for court and attorney stuff.
OMG. I can't believe what they've done--and in just FOUR months!? I'm so sorry, Krista. I know nothing about how this works but is the property manager in any way liable for any of this? Will home insurance cover any of it?
Thanks! It sucks, huh? No, the property manager isn't liable for anything. I'm a little surprised about how he did his drive-by (for an external inspection) and didn't notice the car parked in the back yard or the satellite dishes on the roof, but he's not liable for any of it. Home insurance won't cover it I don't think. I'd look into it but you may recall that I just had a claim in October for the damage from the people who broke in- so 2 claims in less than a year would be bad for my premium. Fun fun!
The carpets look like my carpets. I was horrified when I saw them, but I have most of the burn marks covered by rugs now. By the sounds of it, the previous tenant here was almost as bad as yours!
I don't understand why people are so neglectful towards rental houses. They're still HOMES, and they're your home as long as you live there. I'd never ever treat a place that way - if anything, I've improved this apartment ten fold during the time I've lived here, just by cleaning it and putting curtain rails up etc. :(
What are you planning to do? I agree with you - that house is cursed! Is there anyway you can do it up (again!) and then sell it?
I'm with you on the rental thing- how people can live in absolute filth is beyond me.
I can do it up again, but selling it isn't an option due to the market here right now. I owe on it about $15,000 more than it would sell for right now. In the market as it should be, I would owe on it about $10,000 less than it would sell for, but that isn't the market now... so I probably have to just keep renting it until the market straightens itself out. I have a feeling there will be many "re-doing things" in my future with this place.
It is so disgusting- I'm glad I wasn't there. I hear the smell is horrid. :-/ I'm on the phone with contractors of all sorts getting this taken care of!
