More Hetalia Fanfic Recs
Still plowing my way through "Hetalia" fanfics, enjoying all the historical fun and family feels whenever I can find them. So, here's some more fanfic recs.

Summary: America chafes under England's unwavering attention and the globe's reaction regarding his... downsizing. Will liberty prevail in a world deadset on confining the hero with bedtimes and booster seats? Can he last a Winter Holiday in the U.K. when the Unseelie Court gets dangerously interested in him? Sequel to Wendigo. NO PAIRINGS. Father-Son Fic.
Comments: The "Kith and Kin" saga begun in "Wendigo" continues! Now with Unseelie fae and at least triple the family mayhem. The story isn't as neatly compact as "Wendigo" and the Unseelie plotline is a very slow build. But, I adore the characters as the author writes them. (Especially Arthur/England. If I'm honest, this author's interpretation of Arthur is now solidly on my favorite characters list.) And, once the setup is in place and the supernatural happenings get rolling, it's a great ride all the way to the end.
A Determined Helping Hand by Time Traverser

Summary: Theodore Roosevelt can see that he has a lot of work to do. Semi-historical.
Comments: Another fun historical piece that explores the nature of the Hetalia personification concept. Roosevelt working his way to mutual respect with Alfred is well-written, and there's even some bonus - if initially angsty - brotherly feels between Alfred and Matthew/Canada. ...Also, just a sliver of England caring while pretending not to care.

Summary: Deaths. Alfred knows, with horrific certainty, that this is what Arthur is counting. "Remembering... it's the only thing I can do for them." Semi-historical Blitz fic.
Comments: An obviously depressing bit of history with some nice family feels, but the best part of this story is how the author handles the shift between the characters as supernaturally embodied nations and individuals. Especially Arthur/England. It's Arthur who accepts a few hours of comfort from his younger brother, and England who forces himself up and out to join the fire brigades.
The Voltaire Correspondence by The Goliath Beetle
Series: Hetalia - Axis Powers

Summary: It starts off as a petulant demand from France to England - smuggle the writer, Voltaire, back to Paris. It ends up as an irregular but meaningful correspondence between two long-standing rivals, as they go through the ups and downs of revolutions, wars, and Shakespeare plays. Semi-historical friendship fic.
Comments: I snickered my way through this. Written as a series of back and forth letters, the character voices here are note-perfect, and it's fun to watch their evolving frenemy-ship through the years. The shifts between snark and genuine concern are handled beautifully. And, I laugh every time I read, "I've enjoyed these Napoleonic Wars. Waterloo was especially fun. How about a round two?" followed by a very succinct, "I hate you."
