Steaming a pudding is not actually difficult, but it does take either a burner on the stove, a spot in the oven to hold a pot of water, or a crockpot used as a bain-marie. it's far simpler to steam a pudding using a "pudding mold" (which can be a clean can of the desired size, or a metal, Pyrex, or ceramic mixing bowl with a tea towel tied over the top, as well as any official "pudding mold" container) than it is to try to steam one in a "pudding cloth" which might have to be greased and floured before you can tie the pudding up in it. I don't recommend trying to substitute cling film for a pudding cloth -- I tried it in school and it didn't work very well.

If you've ever made a bread pudding or a cheesecake in a water bath, you can steam a pudding. And they are often delicious. But I agree, Thanksgiving isn't the time to try out an unfamiliar technique.

Your menu sounds great! Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanks, Riki! I do want to try steaming a pudding some time; they appear pretty often in my antique cookery collection. I'd especially like to try with an authentic pudding mold, but I haven't got one!

I hope you and yours have as wonderful a Thanksgiving as possible!

(It would feel weird just wishing you a happy T-day, since I know how tough things are these days. But still.)

Pudding cloths are ore old-school and traditional than pudding molds, so don't fret yourself there.

And we have a lot to be thankful for. Health, good grades, the tax refund... so I plan to have a happy Thanksgiving! Thank you!

Heh. Looks like the train takes 14 hours each way and costs about $571 total. Bit of a long and expensive trip for a meal!
