Butternut Squash and Apple Soup: Color not as orange as I expected, texture nice, taste ... could have used a heavier hand with the spices.  Will try again with that change.

Watercress Sandwiches:  When I reviewed the recipe again, realized these were really egg salad with watercress.  And the mixture was delicious.  I will add this to my permanent ( Read more... )

Is the Sweet Corn New England Style what I think of as corn pudding? That is to say, corn kernels baked into a lovely creamy egg custard?

I LOVE corn pudding. I especially like it at Redbones' where they cross a couple of strips of bacon on the bottom of the ramekin, but it's good even without that.

Yup, it is. I think this one may have suffered a bit from being ready too early, or simply didn't have enough fat in it to taste all that good (I used 2% milk in it with only a touch of cream to try to fatten it up).

Sounds lovely. I'd like to see the spiced peach recipe.

Thanks! The recipe goes like this:

Pour a can of peaches (in pear juice) into a saucepan & turn it on to moderate/low heat. Toss in a short cinnamon stick, six whole cloves, and a scant quarter-cup of sugar. Heat at no more than a simmer until the peaches are hot through and the liquid tastes like the spices. Cool & refrigerate until needed; re-heat before serving.

Incidentally, the uneaten Apple, Walnut & Celery salad is coming down to your place with us today. (I can't eat it all myself, and it's too good to through away!)
